Men do not, as a rule, attack that which i9 in their own interests. Prohibition is commonly supposed to be hostile to the interests of liquor dealers, and as such it is to be expected that they will oppose it and attack it. But they take an odd way of doing so. They ridicule it, claiming that prohibition i9 ineffective, and that in some prohibition territory there i9 more liquor drunk because of it. In answer to this, with reference to Maine, the Homiletic Review sagely remarks: "There is just one conclusive proof that prohibition in Maine is the genuine article, namely. 'Every liquor dealer and every liquor dealer's advocate is engaged in a constant attempt to break it down. If Maine were buying and selling as much liquor as these curious philosophers affirm, would they not be unanimous for continuing so profitable a condition of things? So long as the liquor interests continue their present desperate opposition to the 'inefective' efforts of the temperance people, their ridicule is cause of congratulation."?Sunday School Times. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy Wouid Have Saved Him S100.00. "In 11)12 I had a very severe attack of diarrnoea," says R. N. Farrar of Cat Island, La. "For several weeks I was unable to do anything. On March 18, 1907, I had a similar attack, and took Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy which gave me prompt relief. I consider it one cf the best medicines of its kind in the world, and had I used it in 1902 believe it would have saved me a hundred dollar doctor'sbill." Scld by Kaufmanii Drug Co. *> Grov.' G-lenn Signed Bill. Gov. Glenn, amidst imposing ceremonies, 9igned the proclamation for prohibition to go into effect in North Carolina on the first of January, 1909. The ceremonies took place in the executive office and prohibition leaders from all parts of the 9tate were present. The official vote announced was 113,612 for prohibition and 69,416 against it. Twenty counties out of 98 went wet. The temperance wom! en of the state, at the ceremonies, presented a handsome banner to Buncombe county for the largest majority for prohibition, and one to Yancey county for the largest percentage, ten votes only out of 1,220 in Yancey county being cast against prohibition, ? -fJ-l. ML G. B. Burhans Testifies After Four Years. G. B. Burhans, of Carlisle Center, N. ,Y., writes: "About four years ago I wrote you stating that 1 had been entirely cured of a severe kidney trouble by taking less than two bottles of Foley's Kidney Cure. It entirely stopped the brick dust sediment, and pain and symptoms of kidney disease disappeared. I am glad to say that I have never had a return of any of those symptoms during the four years that have elapsed and I am evidently cured to stay cured, and heartily recommend Foley's Kidney Cure to any one suffering from kidney or bladder trouble.'' Derrick's Drug Store. A Thrilling Experience. C. M. Williams, a popular traveling man of Union, had a most thrilling | experience on the Southern railway trestle across Broad river, near Shelton, several days ago and came near meeting a horrible death. He was walking across the trestle and just as he reached the half way point he fell and broke both bones in one of his legs. As he tripped and fell he came near falling off the trestle into , the rolling waters below. He was alone at the time of the accident and no help was in sight and he was forced to depend on his own efforts. He realized that he could not remain on ; the trestle, for a train was likely to ! bear down upon him at any moment, ! so he dragged himself across the trestle until he reached the end and call- 1 ed persons who rendered him assist- < ance. He suffered most excruciating pain. < The Remedy That Does. ':Dr. King's New Discovery is rlie t remedy that does the healing others s promise but fa.;l to perform." says Mrs. E. R. Doan's Kidney Pills cure the cause of disease, and that is why the cures are always lasting. This remedy strengthens and tones up the kidneys, helping them to drive out of the body the liquid poisons that cause backache, headache and distressing kidney and urinary complaints. Lexington people testify to permanent cures. J. J. Schwartz, living on S. Main St., Lexington, S. C., says: "I have been using Doan's Kidney Pills but a short time, but I have received more benefit from them than any other remedy. I suffered from a too frequent action of the kicneys, and my back pained me severely. The secretions were dark in color and contained a sediment and though I used a number of different remedies, they did not prove of benefit. I finally sent to the Kaufmann Drug Co., procured Doan's Kidney Pills, and am pleased to state that they gave me prompt relief." For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents.
