One of the most horrible crimes in the history of the state was committed near Langley on Friday afternoon about 4 o'clock when, it is alleged. Henry Leophard, a young white man about21 year9 old, lured his little first cousin, Lula May Leophard, less than nine years old, into the woods and there criminally assaulted her. The whole country around Langley was greatly wrought up over the dastardly and brutal act, and for a while intense excitement prevailed. Leophard was not suspected at first or no doubt he would have been summarily dealt with. On Saturdav he wa9 pos itively identified by the little one* as her assailant and he was rushed to Augusta on a trolley car and later carried to the penitentiary in Columbia for safe-keeping. The child is said to be in a critical condition, but will recover. Leophard denies the charge. 'Possum in The Coop.
