Wednesday, April 29,1908. As to Announcements. In order that there may be no misunderstanding we deem it advisable to say just a few words relative to announcements. It has been the custom?and we presume the same course will be followed this year?for friends of candidates to put them out for some office without the knowledge or consent of the party whose name is placed before the voters. They send the announcement to The Dispatch for publication without the necessary amount to pay for its insertion. Our experience in the past has taught us that this is bad policy and we are going to establish a rule this year which Trill not varv from under anv cir cumstances, namely: Every announcement sent to this office must be accompanied by the cash. The price of an announcement, is $5.00 for all offices except county commissioner and coroner, which is $3.00. In case an announcement i$ sent to this office without the price the same will be left out until the money is sent. We hope this statement will be sufficient. Attractions in Columbia. For the past several weeks it has be m the Editor's delight to attend the various attractions of amusement at the different theatres in Columbia, and for the benefit of our readers, many of whom are in Columbia every afternoon or night, we give below the list of the little theatres on the streets: The Bijou, Main street, is managed by Mr. J. K. Milford, and he is placing new attractions every day, which makes "The Bijou" one ~of the most popular in the city. "Fairyland" is operated by Capt. J. J. Robertson and Mr. Charley Bailey, both men of experience and they are always booking the newest and best that's going. "The Lyric" is managed by experienced showmen and its attractions are very popular with Columbia people and something new is being added every day. "Dreamland," opposite the Columbia Theatre, is indeed furnishing some { of the best shows of the season, and f is always crowded with visitors. Manager Brown, of the Columbia 'Theatre, is running a series of moving pictures, and has recently added some popular vaudeville attractions, which makes the Columbia Theatre more popular every day and brings showers .of congratulations upon Mr. Brown. In a few days the Peruchi-Gypsene Co. will be at Hyatt's Park Casino. This is the same company which captivated the people of Columbia last summer with a series of performances, x the like of which had not been seen in Columbia before. Mr. Peruchi is one of the finest performers on the American stage and never fails to bring thunderous applause from the audience. Go and enioy yourself when in the city, Julius 5. Weil & Co. In another column appears an advertisement of the wholesale dry goods and notion firm of Julius H. Weil & Co., of Columbia. This firm was organized three years ago and it3 growth has been phemominal?far greater than the expectations of the owners. The editor went through this store last week. They carry a 3200,000 stock and can supply the wants of merchants at prices equal j to the wholesale houses in New York : and Baltimore. Therefore, it is need- | less for our merchants to send their , orders to the^e far-away cities when they can secure the same goods?in i any quantity?at the same prices, j You saye the exhorbitant freight j charges. We commend this firm to our mer- j chants. Write for prices, or better j cHii cm Columbia and select your ; ' ? own stock, just what you need, and i save vourselves the annoyance of j over-stocking and to have continually ; new and fresh goods.
