Where they make the laws for us: It was said, "He never lent His ear to bribery, theft, or fuss." * So we felt a sort of pride / fn his record year by year.. Then he came to claim his bride, Angie, Parson Goodman's dear. ? i v * Next we heard of a mansion grand, Wnere they entertained in state, And we felt, throughout the land, Angie could find no fitter mate. But you know the Scriptures saith, "Pride goeth before a fall!" \ So, when rumors came?they were but a breath? .f. We couldn't understand at all. Well,^ after a time, dear Angie died, And Jim went on from bad to worse. She'd have stood bravely by his side, Trying to save him from the curse. But now there was nothing to keep N him back, So each day found him drinking more Of friends he began to feel the lack, And his heart grew heavy, sad and i sore. ?"T"^ * With both his wife and money gone, His practice held no charm for him; So he drifted and drifted, sad, forlorn, And now he's known as "Drunken Jim."
