Yes, he is known as "Drunken Jim" AU the country round about; Time was, men raised their hats to him And greeted him with cheer and shout. Remember the class of '78?/ Well, I rather think I do. - Jim was then so tall and straight? A thorough scholar, through and \ through. His>as the very highest part , On that glad Commencement day^ He'd won that honor from the start; /' His mind was logical, they say. Then he was to the State House sent, ? Where they make the laws for us: It was said, "He never lent His ear to bribery, theft, or fuss." * So we felt a sort of pride / fn his record year by year.. Then he came to claim his bride, Angie, Parson Goodman's dear. ? i v * Next we heard of a mansion grand, Wnere they entertained in state, And we felt, throughout the land, Angie could find no fitter mate. Well,^ after a time, dear Angie died, And Jim went on from bad to worse. She'd have stood bravely by his side, Trying to save him from the curse.
