The Colombia State printed an interesting story Friday in connection with a pot of gold, said to have been dug up in that city a few days ago by Mr. J. A. Blackwelder, president of the Bank of Chapin, and Police Officer Fulmer of Columbia. The story is interesting in every detail, and if true, no doubt Messrs. Blackwelder and Fulmer will hereafter have no fear of "money panics." It is claimed that the "pot" was dug up under a house on Lincoln street, formerly occupied by a Mr. Wessinger, but owned by a colored woman, from whom the gentlemen mentioned leased the building for twelve months, paying Her $25 a month in advance. It has long been claimed, so the story goes, that there was hidden treasure some where on the premises. The owner of the property is now grieving over ner iu?s, xor iu 10 luv opinion of many that the "pot" contained a snug little fortune. r \ 1 1 Th# Best Curo Per Colic in Horses. s , / / Colic is nsnally the result of indigestion, caused by sadden changes of feed, too long fasting, food given when the horse is exhausted, new hay or grain, or large.quantities of green feed. Every horse owner should keep Sloan's Sure Colic Core in his stable as an insurance against colic, for an attack of colip is liable to come on without warning at any time; and Sloan's Sure Colic Cure is the safest and best remedy to use. It acts instantly on the stomach and bowels and can be given by a woman or a child. "I cured a horse with colic that had been treated by a good veterinary surgeon for forty-eight hours," writes Mr. R. A. Pierce, of Cohutta Springs, Ga. 4'The horse was about dead and the owner said he wouldn't take five cents for him. I gave him three doses of Sloan'8 Sure Colic Cure and he was up and eating hay in ten minutes." For 58 Sours Mad Stone Stuck Johnston, Jan. 9.?Mr. T. J. Rodgers, of Johnston, was bitten by a mad dog a few days ago, and feeling painful and peculiar sensations over his body v ent at once to Augusta and 'applied the mad stone of Mr. W. R. Williams. The stone adhered for 58 hours and Mr. Rodgers is rejoicing over his^ escape from a most horrible death. ? ? ? i Simple Remedy for La Grippe La grippe coughs are dangerous as they frequently develop into pneumonia. Covered with guano sacks, the mob entered the negro's boarding house early Tuesday morning and took hiir forcibly to the woods. His body wai found at daylight on the Southeri: railroad tracks. Mrs. Mary E. Hooker was born February 7, 1838, and died January 5, i 1908, making her earthly pilgrimage a little less than 70 years. She joined l j Ebenezer Methodist church early in ! life and still held her membership ! there at death. In 1862 she was mar- j ried to Mr. L. S. Hooker and to this happy union five children were born, j three of which preceded her to the j Bnirit. urnrlS TTqt VinoKon/^ tmn ! dren, eighteen grand-children and a host of friends mourn her departure. Although an invalid and great sufferer for eleven years, her faith in God grew stronger and as the end drew near she said to friends around her bedside: "I have no fear of death, I am ready to go." What a blessed thought it should be to us, that while .we have trouble and sorrow yet to j come, her trials are all over and her | spirit is now in the mansions above. D. Rufus Kuc/i*. ! Wagener, Jan. 8. Stomach Trouble Cured. - If you have any trouble with yoar stomach you should take Chamberlain's ! Stomach and Liver Tabl. a. Mr. J. P. The matter should be taken up just as soon as that body assembles and something done to put the State . in a position to hold a legal election. 1 It is a matter of the greatest impor- ^ tance to the people of the State. One great trouble with the present Condition of the situation is in onr primary elections. The voters have learned to think that a primary nomination amounts to an election, and they have become indifferent to and care very little about a general election. The voting in the primaries may be slack, but it cannot be in a general election. Something along that line will have to be done in order to make the people secure proper registration certificates. We still believe in our former suggestion as to having one commissioner with an office at the court house under strict rules and regulations.? Edgefield News. A Higher Health Level. "I have reached a higher health level \ sinee I began using Dr. KingNew i Life Pills," writes Jacob Springer, of West Franklin, Maine. "They keep my stomach, liver and bowels working just right." If these pills disappoint yon on trial, money will be refunded at Kaufman n Drug Co. and Derrick's Drug Store. 25c. STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, County of Lexington, > Court of Common Pleas.
