How many of our school children's parents ever visit the schoOls or even know the teachers when they meet jfchem on the street or in the road, as, the case may be? How many know what they are studying, or how they are progressing? Is there ^ny of you who have a building to make or a for.no s Hroaa fn maVp* a. house to paint, or whatever the job I may be, that say to the one you have employed: "Here are the tools and material, go ahead and do it to suit yoarfeelf, and it will suit me?" Is ndfc that ^hst many people are doing with their children? You say by your actions: "Here is my child, with its / books, paper and pencil; I've fur-/ yx nished material and tools, educate him as you like.77 Now, some of you will say that the "teacher knows bet; ter what they ought to study than I do." While that may be . true to a certain extent, the carpenter or a f v- : dressmaker, or a painter, knows better how to do the work than you do, yet yon do not leave it all to them. / On the rising generation depends the welfare of this great country of ours. y? We want to urge upon the parents . and patrons to, take more interest in oar schools and visit them often, and y Iby your presence give the teachers more encouragement; ask them how jour children are doing?how they are progressing in their studies and as to their general deportment in the - - ?? ? - ?? ?-?J.j? . school. remaps a iew imuuues wu& * with them will save trouble that years to come can never undo. Think about these facts and ask yoniSelf if you are cooing right. This is a sort of "topsy turvey,, world, Jfo one seems to be satisfied. One man is struggling to get justice, and another is flying from it. One man is saving up his'earnings to buy a home and another is trying hard to sell his property for less than it cost to get rid of it. One man is spending all the money he can earn in taking J a girl to a theatre or show and send ing her costly presents in hopes that he may eventually make her his wife, while his neighbor is spending afl the money he has saved trying to get a divorce. One man keeps a pistol to protect himself against burglars, i while his next door neighbor does'nt [ I rtf ahnnfiner himself I I O I , or some member of his family. One man pays for his paper in advance? We have always con-/ tended that the good citizens of Sapdy Run were capable of deciding the mattjer for themselves. But we have ,not changed our mind ofie iota,- but are more firmly than ever of the opinion that they have made a grav$ mistake?one that they will regret for years to come. , It is not necessary for . us to state that we regret to lose this territory; not that Lexington dan't get along without it, but because of our love for the dear people of that section. But we are reminded of the fact that thay have nojb moved any farther off, and we expect to continue to visit them in the future .as we have in the past.. We have never seen so mueh travel on the railroads.
