The arrest was made from a Jfcoio r.cLmarfcs frqjn a cot on th negro. He is wanted in Texas for murder. The negro says he is from Macon, Ga., and that he came here over a year ago, and has been working for C. E. Corley all the time. An election having been ordered by his Excellency Governor M. F. Ansel, to be held in compliance with the requirements of Section 575 Qf Volume 1, of the Code of Laws of South Carolina of 1902, (upon the question of the ttroDOsed new county of Calhoun, to fee formed out of portions of Orangeburg and Lexington counties, to be held on the ifth day. of December, 1907, in accordance with the requirements of law, at which election the electors shall vote "yes" or "no," upon the question of creating a new county ana upon the name and comity seat of the proposed new county, the following managers are hereby ap^ , pointed to conduct said election at the precinct named below, and to canvass and declare the results, and return the same to commissioners of election at Lexington, C. H., S. C., immediately thereafter. He had only one chamber of his pistol loaded and was trying to so arrange thpt chamber by pulling the trigger, so that if he should have occasion to use the weapon it would be ' ? 1 1 11-J XI- _ } a "sure nre," wnen ne puueu iuc trigger one time too many, discharging the weapon, the bnllet, a 38 calibre, passing through his left hand, making cfuite a painful wound. The injured hand was beautifully dressed by Dr. E. P. Derrick, and Mr. Kleckley is doing fine at this writing. -y What Would You Do? In case of a burn or scald what would you do to relieve the pain? Kreps shot and killed the 14-year-old son of Mr. Clarence Bethel. It seems that the two, with two other companions, ,were out hunting when a covey of birds arose. All of the children?for children they were?fired their guns. Young Bethel was seen to fall and when his companions went to him it was observed that he was shot. The weapon used was a parlor rifle. Frick, one of the founders of the town of Chapin and one of the most substantial citizens, of the Dutch Fork, died at his home in Chapin on the night of the 14th, at the advanced age of 71 years. He wasa gallant Confederate soldier and did service in Capt. Koon'9 regiment, 1 and was made first lieutenant. He wfis later advanced to the rank of Captain. He leaves three sons and five daughters. The United States government has issued one hundred million dollars in certificates of indebtedness and fifty , million dollars of Panama bonds as a means of affording immediate relief to the financial situation, the proceeds from the sale of certificates to be used for movement of the crops. This was done at the instigation of Secretary of the Treasury, Cortelyou, and the proposition, was readily approved by President Roosevelt. There is no stringency in the South . 1 now, nearly all the banks in the prini ciple cities having issued dealing house certificates, which immediately relieved the situation.
