ANSEL Labels His Appointment of John C. Sheppard as Obtuse and Stupid. Columbia, Aug. 1.?A political sensation was created today by a state J 1 O 4 .,4-,^ A ^^4 merit issueu. uy oupcuutcuucuv m Education Martin severely criticizing Governor Ansel for appointing exGovernor John C. Sheppard, of Edgefield, to fill a vacancy on the state hoard of education from the second district. The statement is so severe that it means a personal rupture between the governor and superintendent of education, both of whom are from the same section of the state and formerly lived in the same town. SSE Mr. Martin says the appointment of Mr. Sheppard is purely political and contrary to the policy which he has endeavored to carry out of having only educators on the board, though he expresses high admiration for distinguished ex-governor. He declares however, that the appointment is re\ suit of 1 'gubernatorial obtuseness and stupidity." ; The governor under the law has the J- ? t J 1 x. H/T? appointment 01 Doara, dus iur. niarwu declares that common decency requires that superintendent of education be consulted since the relations between the board and superintendent are very close. This appointment is made to fill a vacancy, bub the entire board retires in March and the governor has the appointment of their successors. The governor and superintendent of education are thrown in close contact since both are ex-officio members of board of education. We Guarantee Satisfaction. J. A. The most eminent medical scientists are unanimous in the conclusion that the generally accepted limitation of human life is many years below the attainment possible with the advanced knowledge of which the race is now possessed. Outlook for Cotto i 7aruojs. If farmers are wise a better day is dawning for them. T e ^rtlook is encouraging. But if they want to kill the goose that is to lay the golden egg, they will soon have neither egg nor goose. The hope is that better times will come gradually, the result of united effort on their part. A prosperity that gives them 15-cent cotton and nothing more will be bad. Real, lasting, uplifting prosperity means improved homes, better farms, the making of an abundance ofjall. home supplies, the education and-refinement of the children and the betterment of the community. A fair price for cotton will be very helpful in bringing that condition about. It now looks as if that price wonld be secured this year. .. The outlook for the future is good. Demand for cotton cloth is' increasing and the price advancing.
