Lexington County Teachers' Association held its regular meeting October 28, 1905, in the Institute building. A good number of teachers were present, and subjects well discussed. 1. Association was called to order by president Prof. T. W. Dreher. 2 Devotional exercises?a o u g, "Maryland.'' ?Miss" Elizabeth Dominick presiding at organ. 3 Miss L zzie Sfcay showed very prettily by her paper how every successful character of any profession tries to fit himself with proper equipments. That it is the teacher's duty to be alive to the needs of his or her school. Also it is the teacher's duty to arouse the sympathy of patrons cn fchis subject: "And let none become weary in well doing." Mr. J. F. Kyzer, the other speaker on the subject of "Better School Equipments," insisted that there be well equipped teachers. * 4 Miss Carrie Corley read a paper on "Making School Grounds Attractive." She showed in a deliberate and brief manner the importance of attractive school grounds, as the child's first impressions are most lasting, the picture for memory should be as pretty as possible. 5. Prof. J. R. T. Major fully arid ablv discussed "The Teachers Read?* mg Circle.1' He gave us a mbst appropiiite simile on the unending restlessness of nature. The Teacher's Reading Circle is aptly fitted for the teacher's intellectual and spiritual -developments. Eich v day makes its own peculiar demands on us as teachers, and we must read such literature as will be formative. 6 At tbe close of Prof. Mbjor'e address a Teacbet's Reading Uncle was organized with a dozen or more members. 7. Adjournment was next in order. 8 The following programr wassubmitted by the Executive Committee for November meeting, with a most earnest request that said meeting be opened promptly at eleven o'clock a. m: 1 "Columbia, Grm of the Ocean." 2 "Is tbe* Present Adoption of Public School Books Satisfactory?? Maa's Unreasonableness is often as great as woman's, but Thos. S. Austin, Mgr. of the "Republican," of Leavenworth, Ind., was not unreasonable when he refused to allow the doctors to operate on his wife for female trouble, "instead, "he says, "we concluded to try Electric Bitters. My wife was then so sick she could hardly leave the bed, and five (5) physicians had failed to relieve her. After taking Electric Bitters she was perfectly cured and can now perform all her household duties." Guaranteed by The Kaufmann Drug co., druggist, price 50c. ? ? Thanksgiving Bsercisss. Alluding to the possible harm in eating grapes, because wine is sometimes made from them, the same writer says: It's a wonder that The State, News and Courier and the Greenville paper do not get out an injunction against Ben Tillman for raising grapes. The babit of one tends to lead to tbe others and card playiDg, gambling,?death, hell and destruction. How often does a man, or. a boy for that matter, get on tbe out side of mean whiskey, puts a pistol in his pocket and shoots down his beet friend and neighbor on the least provocation. The laws are not etriDgent enough. Our people should see to it that the law making power t*ke more drastic measures to stop the carrying 6f concealed deadly weapons. There should be a law passed to fine every person guilty of carrying pistols to tbe extent of five hundred dollars or two years on the county chaiDgang. Should a law like this be passed end every citizen wbv knew of anyone violating tbe . i act report same to toe omoere, you would see less killing as a result of pistol "toting." May God speed the day when our country shall be rid of this curse. Billy Felix. Do You TJso Your Oura Judgment? Lion Coffee is a package coffee that reaches the homes of the people just as it left the factory where it is roasted and packed. The beans are picked and carefully selected at the plantation, then shipped direct to our factories to be prepared for home use. The most scrupulous care is taken with every process, the utmost cleanliness enforced in every operation. Men and machinery employed in making Lion Coffee ready for the market are chosen on account of their excellence and fitness for their work S >me of the results of this scrupulous treatment of Lion Coffee are a delicious flivor, perfect purity and a uniform strength and quality. All loose (?r bulk) c-ffee is open to doubi?to put it midiy. The buyer does not know, the seller does not know, where the bean came from, or bow it was roasted, or where aod whei; how many bands handled it, what kind of hands they were, what contamination it received from dusr, insects, dirt, 8tc. Lion Coffee is pure, fresh and clean?that much is certain. Loose coffee?there isn't anything at all certain about it except that wise housewives will not buy it! All grocers know the above to be true. There may be a V6ry few left who will try to persuade you another way. If they do, just ask them bow they account for the increasing popularity of Lion Colft-e in millions of homes for the past quarter of a century. A Disastrous Calamity.
