The trustees of the Columbia Female College are putting up a handsome building at Hyatt Park, a suburb of Columbia. The cornerstone was laid Monday with the beautiful Masonic ceremonies. The cornerstone is a marble block bearing the simple inscription, "Columbia Female College, 1850-1905." Joseph Jefferson, one of the world's greatest actors, and who won fame and fortune as Rip Van Winkle, has gone to sleep to wake no more. There is a wide-spread complaint among the legal fraternity on account of the numerous clearical errors discovered by the codifier in the sets of the last Legislature. As an evidence of the prosperity of Wofford College, the trustees have recently decided to put up an additional buildiDg for a fitting school, to cost ?20,000. Evidently the institutions supported by the State are not dangerous competitors of Wofford. At a mass meeting held at Hampstead, Texas, called to petition the Governor to send rangers to enforce the local option, three men were killed and two others were severely wounded. Frank G. Greatly to the surprise of all in Lancaster several arrests have been made in the case of the lynching which cdcurred at Kershaw, that county, last October. "We do not agree with the friend whom we heard make the statement once, that Lexington county wouid have to borrow her men to fill her offices if Bhe wants them filled. Holy communion was given to a large congregation at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer yesterday, Easter Sunday. The communicants numbered about two hundred and seventy-five. We have not exactly caught on to all the town rules yet. We have been accustomed to talking and mingling with friends and relatives after the benediction was pronounced but here we must quietly walk home and talk with our families. We have very fine singing. The choir consists of eight or ten members, one of whom is one of Lexington's fairest and most accomplished daughters, Mrs. S. J. Derrick. Her sweet voice can be distinctly heard all over the church. The great pipe organ in this church, which cost twenty five hundred dollars, certainly is a solace to the ears oi any one who may hear the low grumbling sound of those | pipes.
