ftate tis F???& i?aem Capt Peterkin's Solution of tho Coin-* mercial Fertilizer Qaestion?Let the Land Rest for a Year. To the Editor of the News and Courier: One of the chief causes of the impoverished condition of the farmers is the ose of too much commercial fertilizer and the injndicious application of the same. For twenty years we have bought any and every thing that has been offered for sale. All that has been * ~ ~ ? ? ? AA?v^AiUirvry in necessary was iu put n;uioiuiug *u a sack or barrel and brand some unusual or peculiar name on it. I do cot accnse the manufacturers of j fraud, but do accuse my brother farmers of beiog the biggest set ofj fools there is in all the land, and the writer the king of fools, or the biggest fool of all. For several years I bought ammomate^ fertilizers at high prices, and applied in connection with cotton seed meal or cotton seed in the natural state. After spending thousands of dollars in this foolish way, I dropped the ammoniated goods to a { great degree and bought acid phosphate and acidulated rock, and mixed it half acid or acidulated rock and hall cotton sfced meal. Three or foar years ago I concluded I had enough sulphuric acid aod phosphate in my land, and began to put in less phosphate and commercial fertilizers, and brought it'down to one hundred pounds with whatever amount of meal I used per acre. I am now satisfied that where lands have been continuously planted in cotton, that it is unnecessary to apply commercial j fertilizers of aDy kind; the lands i need resjL^rsis^eu* ior at least one year. If you buy at all, only buy to-mlx with meal, where you plant ^ on lands that were grown in something besides cotton, and put not j over one hnndred pounds to the j rro?A,.* o*A vorinno rooanno fnr ! By osiog little or do com- I mercial fertilizer the plant will start | oit in the spring a little slow, will have less fruit in Jnly and stand the Joly and Angost drought. If yon cannot let every farmer decide for and say I will for one year land rest from fertilizers. I have been told of late 11 mers could not boy it; that L chance was to geUit through some one else's merchant. T be true to some extent. Of money enongh will bay it, don't need it. These conspirators, it seems, have come to the conclusion to adopt the repressive policy and organize another raid on the people of the South, to be carried out under the Harrison administration. The lever to be used in gettiog at the Southern States is barefaced interfer ence with and in Southern elections. The elections of Congressmen is to be the exease for these political jackals poking their noses into the domestic affairs of the Sonthern States. To ward off this danger, it is proposed in Texas, at least, to change the luw, making the IStale elections fall on a different day from congressional elections, so that the Republicans can have no excuse for having a finger in the State ballot. It is probablo a move to that end will soou be made in the Legislators Finger Nails. II all eyes were normal, that is perfectly shaped, then it would be an easy matter to get glasses, a person by stating his or her ago would receive the number of glass correspond ing to that age aud be suited exactly. But unfortunately there are few eyes perfectly normal, and sometimes wo find a person of fifty and a child of twelve years of age wearing the same number of glasses, the reason being that the ohilds eves were very poor while the older person's were very good. Again we often find a different strength in the right and left eye of some person. Again we find persons who complain of never being able to get a glass to suit them perfectly. This is owing to a peculiar malformation of their eyes which ordinary glasses will not remedy. When fitting cases of this kind?by a new process?we make a careful measure of the eye and grind a glass specially to suit By this system we have made persons see well, who thought that nothing could be done for their sight. If vonr eyes give trouble, vail on us and be fitted properly. The Brazillian Axis Cut Pebble Spectacles and Eye Glasses are the FINEST and BEST on the market.
