C., where be attended the Bible conference of ministers of the A. It. P. church, lie reports about .10 ministers present and a most pleasant and profitable time -spent. It was decided to hold another conference next year at the same place and the same committee was appointed to arrange for it. ?Several families of Riverside and Lancaster united in a big fish fry and cut-fish soup dinner on tho banks of the Catawba Wednesday. Bryant Knight, Lester Sistare and ex-sheriff Clyburn looked yesterdny as though they would each weigh about ten pounds above their average. ?The State board has made small reductions in tho assessments of thirteen cotton mills in tho State. Tho Springstine mills, one of Col. Springs' Chester mills, was reduced from $114,000. to $103,440. No reduction was made in the assessment of the Eu I ?The Bock Tliil District conference is still in session at Tabernacle. There are 18 ministers and about 25 lay delegates in attendance. Bishop Duncan failed to arrive and in his absence Elder Meadors is presiding. It is one of the best sessions the conference has ever held. The clever Tabernacle people never do thing* by halves and the entertainment is tho best the conference has had anywhere. $1,500. Bail M. L. Smiih, Esq., of the Cam* don bar was in town Wednesday and obtained bail in habeas corpus proceedings before justice Jones for the negro man who recently shot and kdled his step-son in Korshaw county. .1. A Little Negro Hoy Gets Sliot. A littlo negro boy was shot on the roadside neat Fort Lawn last (Yednosduy by Mr. .John Young. It seems that tho shooting was accidental. Mr. Young, one or two other young men and several young Indies were out riding and meeting the little negro in the toad Mr. Young thought to have some fun out of him and pretended that he had seen him in his water-melon patch and would have to arrest bun. Fulling his pistol from his pocket as he was tolling tho littlo fellow this and pointing it in the direction of the hoy, but with no intention of firing it, it was discharged inflicting a wound in tho side of the boy that may prove fatal. Bell, of Charlotte, all former pu pils of Mr. Shurley, will make addresses appropriate to the occasion. Mr. Shurley, who -spent 1 several years of his life in South ' America, was one of the moat 1 successful teachers this country : has ever known. He was remarkable for the thoroughness with | which ho prepared boys for collego. Ho taught a privaie school at Pleasant Valley for a number of } ears, which drew a large pntI ronage from North Carolina, as I well as from different parts of this State.
