LhUI'lottO, N. C. I Government's Final Report. The Cotton Crop, 9',966,478 Bulet* ?Au Excess Due to Extensive Marketing of Cotton Held Over From ihovious Years. Washington, Nov. 29. ?T hi riuul report t f the statistician of the Department of Agriculture shows the. actual growth of cotton in the United States in the year 1901-1902 to have been 9,900,4X8 commercial bales, of which 115,550 bales wore iWrketBd before September 1,1901, and 9,096,336 bales between September 1, 1901, and August 31, 1902, 154,592 bales being carried forward to the year 1902^1903. The commercial year amounted to 10,063,224 bales, thus exceeding the amount actually grown by 096,750 bales. This excess was due in the main to the very oxtensive marketing of cotton hold over from previous years. The difference between the statistician's preliminary estimate of the amount grown, issued Decernher 3, 1901, and the amount of cotton that has como into commercial channels during the year having been used to discredit the statistician's reports on the crop of the present year, a most exhaustive investigation of the commercial crop and its composition lias been made by the Depart ment, a large force of special agents having personally visited every important point in "the South. The results of their investigations are summarized in tho following statement: The amount of coiton brought forward on September 1, 1901, was 528,000 bales and 198,190 bales of the crop of 1902 1903 were marketed prior to the first of September. There also entered into the commercial crop 172, 226 bales of liutcrs and 67,572 hales made up of sample and waste cotton known to trade as the eiU shop. n, i> i- ^ ? Dallus, Tex., Nov. 26.?The First National bunk at Morgan, Bosque county, was dynamited by robbers early today and $5,000 iu gold, silver and currency secured. The first intimation of the presence of the gang, believed to be three in number, was when h loud explosion was beam. Before citizens could reucb the bank the bandits had secured the mon* ey in the outer safe and made their escape. Government's Profits. The Richland distillery is said to be paying revenue tax to the government at the rate of about $1 ,000,000 a year. A few years ago the total collections of the internal revenue service in South Carolina only amounted to about $60,000 per annum. ?South Carolina is to have another million dollar cotton mill ? the "Marlboro Cotton mills." A commission to the company was issued by the secretary of state last week. The plant will bo located at McCall in Marlboro county and the capital slock is to do $1,000,000.?The State. Fluctuations of silver keep exchange continually varying, Opinions are still divided as to tho advisability of adopting a gold standard. The largest business men and most bankers incline to a gold basis Farmers in the interior are disposed to regard the agitation in favor of gold standard as a mere outcry on tho part ot interested foreigners. Business men are marking up prices to the proportion of 6 to 1. Tho silvler dollar is down nearly to one third of its nominal value expressed in gold. Banks are all prosperous and business interests report excellent trade conditons. Robbers Got Between $3, 000 and *4,000. Charlotte, N. C., Nov. 27.?A special to The Ohservel from Wilmington, says: An iron safe in the store of Watson & Gorford at Jouesboro, N. C., was blown open last night and-between three and four thousand dollars 6tolen, including two ono*thousand dollar " North Carolina bonds.
