He had been missing cotton and concluded Sun day night to sleep in his cotton houso and try and catch the rogue. Death of Miss Marie Horn. A message to the Heath 15. & M. Co., yesterday morning announced the death of Miss Mario Horn, the young lady who came here at the opeuing of the season to take charge of their millinery department but who returned home, after a few days stay, with fever. Her death occurred at 11 o'clock Monday night. She was an excellent young lady and during her short stay hero she piade friends of all whom she met and the community will he pained to learn of her untimely death. ltoport of the County Supt. of Education. The annual report of County Supt. of Education Rowoll to the State Supt. of Education shows that Lancaster county has 52 school districts, and that there are 58 white schools and 48 colored in the county with a total enroll ment of G 213 pupils?3,394 white and 2,819 colored. The amount available for school purposes will bo $9,3C1.50 as fob lows: From 3 mill tax $6,213, poll tax $2,122 20, dispensary $966.30. Too little 4 year-old son of Mr. Frank Robinson near I'axabaw was seriously burned last Thursday by his clothing accidentally catching atiro from the kitchen stove while his mother had stepped out into the yard. The skin was badly blistered and in some places burned off from the little fellow's knees to his breast beforo the flames could be extinguished by the mother who heard bis screams and ran at onco to him. Dr. I'erry who is attending him, tve understand, thinks his recovery doubtful. Court Proceedings 4 The court of general sessions convened here Monday morning, Judge Aldrich presiding. The following cuses have t>een disposed of: Bosaie Hammond pleaded guil ty to the charge of house breaks ing and larceny, and was sentenced to 10 months' service on the public works. Frank White was tried and convicted of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and was scnt^pced to pay a fine of $60 or 3 months on tho gang. Henry Boyd was convicted of a similar offense and sentenced to the chain gang for 6 months. Wra. and Thos. Adams wore tried for assault and battery with intent to kill; verdict not guilty. Deaths. Mr. John M. Plyler, a respected citizen of the New Cut section, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 20, 1902, after a painful illness of peritonitis. Ho was a son of the late Elisha Plyler and leaves a widow and nine children surviving him. lie was a member of Bethel Methodist church and his remains were interred at Tabernacle yesterday, his pastor, Rev. W. C. Winn, conducting the funeral service ? Mrs. Ellen Nelson, wife of Mr. J. A. Nelson, who lives near old Prospect camp ground, died on Friday last and her remains were interred Saturday in Tirzah churchyard. Sho was about 77 years of age, a member of the Motho'list church, a good woman, and leaves her husband, one son and four daughters surviving her.
