Tbo Twiii < ornor Stones Laid Willi Impressive Masonic C rcmonies. Saturday afternoon a large concourse of our citizens witnessed the laying of tho corner stones ol the new Masonic temple and the Lancaster Graded School building. A masonic procession was formed by Grand Marshal John Crawford at the Cythian Hall and preceded by tho school children in charge of the toachars, and tho Mayor and Wardens was marched to the Masonic Lodge wbero Grand Master W. M* Whitehead performed the duty of laying the corner stone in regular fiom. Ilo then delivered the tools to Mr. W. S. Langley, tho builder, and asked tho assistance of the So 41?- - e - preuie Yvrcnueci or ine L inverse in the completion of the work. Rev. J. H. Boldridgo, D. D., acting grand chaplain, then offered a fervent prayer after which Past Grand Master J. T. IJarron of Columbia made a most onter? taining and instructive address upon the symbols of Masonry in the ceremony of laying the corner stone. Acting grand treasurer B F. Miller then deposited in the cornor atono a history of masonry in Lancaster county, written by l'ost Grand Mastoi B. J. W itherspoon, a roll of members, F. C's and E. A's of Jackson Lo 3ge, the names of the Mayor and Wardens of the town and a copy of each of the countv newspapers. The beuediction was then prw nouncerf, and the procession was reformed and marched to the graded school building where the same ceremoaie* were gone through and similar deposit* made in the comer stone with the addiiioN of a complete roll of the teachers and pupils of the school, the tools being delivered to Messrs Bird <Sc Porter, the Builders.? During the ceremonies the beautiful masonic odes were sung by 11 quartette of sweet lady singers. Tlio address here was delivered by Grand Master Whitehead who after eloquently speaking on the object to which this building would be devoted, iuteicstingly spoke on the subject of masonry. The trowel of the Grand Master was the one used by Gen. Lafayette in laying tho corner stone of the DeKalb monument at Camden in 1825. It is of solid silver with Ivorj bundle and was parchased by the grand lodge several years ago for $400. The inscriptions on the corner stones are as follows: to asonic?"Erected by Jackson Lodge, A.
