Mackey of Heath Spring is the ehampion pumpkin raiser of the county. His two largest raised this season weighed 70? and 87 pounls respectively. Mr. Mackey doesn't make a spe cmuy 01 raising pumpkins and says it was a mere accident that he raised such large ones. There is no telling what he could do if he would turn his attention to raising pumpkins. He also holds the belt for having raised the largest watermelon ever raised in the county. One of the most distressing gin accidents that has occured in this section took place at Mr. Dick Sowoll's gin just over the line in Chesterfield county last Thursday. Mr. Wesley Quick, who runs the gin, is Mr. Sowel's son-in-law, and he is the one who suffered the accident. While he was feeding the gin his hand was caught and tho arm drawn in clear to the shoulder. Hero he was held for sometime while the gin continued to run and tear tho flesh and bone till his Bcreama ? - ? ?? ? ??* mvvvu vuv mv ' tcntion of the negro hand on the yard who ran and stopped the gin. In the negro's excitement ho jerked Mr. Quick's arm from the gin and pulled hie hand off in so doing. Only a fortunate circumstance saved the wounded man's life, for he would most certainly have bled to doatli had not assistance been near. Dr. A. D. N. Whitley happened to be at Mr. Quick's house nearby, attending upon Mrs. Quick, who was ia a delicato condition. Dr. Whitley attended to the wounded man, and that night he and Dr. J. B.
