This intensely interesting war drama iu tour acts was exceedingly well rendered by our amateurs last b'riduy night to a crowded house. Indeed, so delighted was , the audience with the rendition of j the play that' a request was made j for a repetition of the performI anee. and tonight it will h?> rpnonU I ' ? 1? i ed in the courthouse with reduced j prices. They have also received j invitations to appear in four j neighboring town6 but can only j accept one, and have decided to play at Kershaw next Friday night. The cause for which our I w young people have gotten up this entertainment, viz: to raise funds for the erection of a monument to the memory of the Confederate I J soldiers of Lancaster county, is a laudablo one, and doubtless drew well on this account, but every one present felt that he had gotten his money's worth and more. Many of our best critics pronounced the play the best they have over seen in Lancaster. Everyone* acted so well and everything seemed so real that the spectator* were just simply carried away with it. Mr. Hughes tilled the character of General , Dering, C. S. A , porfectly. and hientitor Hough eotild hardly be | improved on as Captain Gordon : Beverly, chief of staff. J. II. Foster as Major Jack Warrington entered fully into the characj tor as did also Mr. J. E. Johnson as Lieutenant Forest. The pro; fessional stage cannot furnish a j better Captain Porter, U. S. A., ! than Mr. D. It. Williams made, ! and Mr. J. C. Foster was an ideal of George Stone. Miss Addio Carter was very natural in the character of Kirs. Warrington, and Miss Ida Corbet timply charmed the audience as Marion Warrington, her daughter, while no amateur need ever hope to oxeel Miss Mamie Huev as Kate ' Conyers, her niooo Mr. Dan Jones as Ned, a negro servant, and Miss Clara Barrett, as Mom Elsie, a family servant, were splendid, and Stove Williams mud? a good Yankee sergeant. Ed W. Si stare as a Confederate scout, and Messrs. Foster Nelsor. and Dun Tillman as Confederate soldiers acted well their parts. Mr. J. T. Thomasson made a handsome and excellent surgeon. Too much cannot he said in commendation of the performance. The old camp songs were touching and the boys looked like real soldiers when seated about the tent singing. The door receipts for the evening amounted to $93. After the entertainment the actors by invitation repaired to the residenco of Dr. T. .J.
