The name of the dead negro is Julius McLeod, but he was better known as "Shirt." The gang was working on the Garner's Ferry road at a point near the old convent?just beyond Epworth?when a gun iu the hands of a guard, H. Brockman, was accidently discharged. The load ef No. 2 shot took effect in McLeod'e body. There were 20 perforations in the hody, and death came almost instantly. The negro screamed, "Catch me, caich me qnick," and fell dead.
