R. E. Wvlie, Esq., left this morning for tuigar Creek near Charlotte, N. C., to see his wife and little ones who are visiting at that place. 000 Miss Ma/.i? Witherspoon returned home Thursday after several weeks visit to her brother, Dr. B. ,1. Witherspoon in Charlotte, N.C. Items From The Waxhaw Knterprlse The home of Mr. J. A.Estridge, a few miles south of town, was on last Thursday the scene of a beautiful and sumptuous wedding. At tlie hour of ten o'clock on that "lay his daughter. Miss Alice, was happily married to Mr. W. B. McRorie, of Mecklenburg county, by 'Squire T. W. Secrest, in the presence of about fifty invited guests. After the marriage a sumptuous dinner was served, and the afternoon was whiled awav in a very pleasant manner On Friday evening the happy young couple left for Charlotte on the north-bound vestibule, and will spend some time in visiting relatives and friends in Mecklenburg county. They were the recipients of many warm congratulations and good wishes for their future happiness. A very unfortunate cutting affair took place here last Wednesday night. Roscoe Single and Cleveland Laney, two cotton mill operatives, got into a difficulty, and Single stabbed Laney ia the hack, just under the left shoulder blade, with a knife, which pene t rated to the cavity of the chest and probably slightly into the lung. The Lancaster Ledger says that it has been shown an egg that re . sombles a watch. On one side is the face with the twelve divisions indicating the i welve hours. This goes to show that hens are good time keepers, as well as the old chanticleer that sounds his bugle at the midnight hour, at three o'clock and at daybreak. According to the old katydid sign, frost will he here by the middle of October, and as signs never fail except in dry weather, we may expect it promptly on time. e\ ??ixum Home siftrriaj;" \i th?* homo of th* bride, at thi** place, on Wedne^d-jy afternoon at 3 o'clock. Hicksoti was the ideal of robust ^ young manhood. But while his J friends admired the handsome face, the manly fotm; and almost | envied him the glow of health in ] his cheeks and the seeming long y and useful life before him, little ^ did tney dream that so soon the J I 1 relentless angel of Death, with . his icy touch, would lay low this noble young man. For months . j he has suffered from cancer of | the tongue, and it will lie remem- i bered that he wm recently operated on at the Johns Hopkins hospital and a large part of the , j tongue removed. After some weeks spent there he came home j and he and his friends wet e bright- j ened, and cheered up with hopes that the cancer would u?t return j but, alas, their hopi s soon vanish. ; ed and it became too apparent that the inevitable was at hand- ! Only a week ago it became the 1 painful duty of his step-father, j Sheriff Jno. P. Hunter, to tell , him the result of a consultation , of the physicians, viz: that a re- : , turn to Johns Hopkins was useless and that his recovery could , no longer be {hoped for. Takieg t wo handsome rings from his tin- ' j ger i.? requested that they he ! given to his sister, and from that ! time calmlv be awaited the final 1 moment, which came at 12 o'clock Thursday and his pure spirit slipped away iato the great beyond. I Henry James Hickson wasjthe oldest son of the late H. J., and juaura r raser tlick so.., and was | about 40 years of age. For .sev- I j eral years he was engaged in busi- | , ness hero but for ihe past few ! year* hfr has been engaged in bus- ' ; iness in Charleston. During Mr. | j Hunter's term as U.S. Marshal,he ; ' was his chief deputy. Mr. Hick- j ( | son hud many friends, and was a | young man without guile, honest, J kind, sincere always, never one i thing today and ano her tomor- , row. In morals he was a model young man. From childhood he ? exhibited a devotion to his mother that was beautiful, and that same devotion has been shown his sister, Mrs. G. B. Barren, who survives him. He was a member of the Methodist church and died in full hope of the reward that awaits the faithful, i The interment took place yesterday morning; in the family plot at the eld cemetery, with the burial ceremony of the Woodmen of the World, of which he was a member and in which fraternity he carried insurance on his life to the amount of S3,000. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chalmers Fraser assisted by Rev. J. H. Boldridge. The services were held in the Presbyterian church and the church was filled with people notwithstanding a hnavy iain was falling. The grave was covered with beautiful flowers after it had been filled. i To the devoted sister and loved ^ ones who survite him, we tender I our deepest sympathy and the sympatny of the atira com* m unity. ?1&m N cr v*P rTrniM cu re RH KUM A- ' CUM WEAK BACKS.
