Told of Fortunes r~ Latimer Wore u Five Dollar Suit, and Talked of Copper Mine Fortunes und Smoked Strong Cigar. Greenville News. Congressman Anbury C. Latimer came out of the front door of the Mansion house yesterday afternoon a vision in blue. No blue bird ever was colored as the Bel! ton statesman. I The was something fresh and, cool about him as he tilted his chair against tko frout wall of the building and elevated his number j e emus to the Main street view, j A cVowd of local celebrities gathered about him and began to talk politics and copper mines. "How much did you really make?" asked one of the crowd. "Well, you see it was this way ? " "That's a pretty blue suit you have on," said another. "Its pretty cheap, too, said the congressman, "I bought two of them for ten dollars. "My, but he must be rich !" grasped a hungry news' oy who had joined the convention. "1 got in on the copper mine ileal in this way," continTied the statesman, "I bought the stock at $25 a share. 1 was told to buy it at $8 a sha-e but had uo confidence when the price was at that figure. But 1 cot confidence when it was $25 and held my confidence until it reached $40." "How many shares di<l you I buy ?" asked the Major, as he requested the loan of the Colonel's plug. "Ten thousand," replied the statesman. The convention began figuring on the hacks of envelopes and grasped out in chorus: "$150,000 ! Gee !" ; The statesman waved back the lapel of his $2.50 coat and looked real bloated. "It pays to go to Congress," suggested a thin gentleman with a clove breath. "Well, 1 might say that if I had not gone to Mexico," said the s'ntesmiin with a saintly expression. "Last session was the time to be in Congress," suggested another gentleman with a Saturday bouquet to his exhalation. The rest of the party looked at1 him askaMce. j "WJiat about the senatorship?" , asked a fat individual with a sinistei way of looking at Congressmen. Not an Acquittal or Mistrial? Daisy Cicero Again Convicted. Special to The State. W'innsboro, dune 15.? The dune term of the court of sessions that ended here yesterday was a1 remarkable one in that it was without an acquittal or a mistrial. There were two cases for the illegal selling of whiskey and the offenders in each instance were lined $100. For housebreaking Henry Hopkins was given five years in the oenitentiai v Th<? i case against Henry Franklin for murder was continued. This murder was committed several months ago, hut Franklin escaped into Lexington, whore he was arrested. The case against Sam Crig, Andy Brice, John Kewe and Will White for the murder of William Roshorongh was nol pressed. Roshorough, it will he remembered, was m >st foul I v murdered here on the streets of Winnshoro last Christmas eve. For two weeks the coroner's jury endeavored to find the perpetrators of this tcrnhle crime. No leward for the apprehension of t Ifw murderers at that time was offered, hut now a petition will he presented to the governor to offer a reward. Roshorough was a -t l succrssiui negro in ousiness and wan murdered for his money. Daisy Cicero, colored, was agiin tried for the murder of her husband. At the last term of court she was found guilty und the verdict of the jury this time was the same. Her's is a strange case. During her tirst trial she showed no interest whatever in her trial and heard the words "guilty" pronounced without a single movement. She manifested hut little inter* st in her last trial, and she received the judge's sentence without any outward emotions whatever. The governor will i?e petitioned to commute her sentence to life imprisonment, and this petition will doubtless he signed by all who hoard the trial. She had no attorney, and so J. E. McDonald, Esq., was appointed to conduct her defense, which he did in a most able manner. Railway Near Yorkville?A Cotton Seed Oil Mill \ Yorkville, dun? 14?The southbound passenger train on the Carolina & Northwestern railway, ran over and killed a little negro child, aged about 18 months, about G miles north of this place last evening, near the residence of Mr. I). M. I'arrott, on Allison creek. The mother was working in a field near hy and left the child with a negro hoy about six years old. They were playing on the railroad track, and the hoy had been told to take the child away from there, dot did not obey. It was in a small cut and the train bad started on a down grade.? When the boy saw the train coming, ho ran and left the child on the track. Engineer Srayer re. grcttod the accident very much and said he could not have stopped the train at that point if his whole family had been on the track. It was a case of pure carelessness on the part of the mother and bov who was warned of the danger by Mrs. Parrott. The building of our cotton seed oil mill seems to be an assured fact. A couple of gentlemen from GatTney, who arc interested in the enterprise, left here this morning. They have been making arrangements in the matter, and let out the contract for the building A \T II r* r~* * * 10 ivemir tv Co., of this place ? The main building is to be of brick. The roller Homing mill and ginnery on the grounds are to be thoroughly repaired and some additions made, and run in connection with the oil mill.?
