A ROMANCE re Tne story of IV. Marion Sims reads like a romance A poor lad, a si niggling young physician with j,-| failure stamping his entrance into thn profession ? with all these dis~ yc advintage*he became the foremost jp, physician of ihe world in his day, and was thw tried and trusted mir ire hi who operated in royal homes (<a in Kurope He nag self exiled from thin country during the War pf between the States, and surrender- p( od a tine practice in New York citr on account of his loee for the on south During hia sojourn in an Europe he became so eminent and so much sought after that he a very nearly became lost to America entirely. lie finally returned to thin country and established a fa- jt moils hospital in New York. n Dr. Thorn well, the master mind 1 I of the Southern Presbyterian ' *: church, the distinguished educator C( and the eloquent preacher, was f( himself a rery poor boy. ! j A ndrHw I-..L. * - ? - ! ,. mhvkpimi nai in a idwit j t) | station in his childhood. He was j ] hoin on old Twelve Mile creak. I .lust 10 miles away, on Sugar creek in Macklebnrg county, .Tames K Polk was bora. No other ' two presidents wore horn so near to each other. Hut Lancaster ia not content to thua close her charpter of history. The people of this county ^ are restlessly energetic, and are '' huilhing up many other enter? prises. * The railroad which the people of Che?teriiold county are building * ' f will bo tAkcn up by the people of JjancM^tor un< 1 will be built from the line divi ling the counties to the town of Lancaster. Further more the narrow gauge road from ^iSincristor to Chester is to be to *' tmilt and to be made 'standard 1( fr gauge. C.ro?,at ins are now being put n the ground for this purpose. ni A WONDF.RFUL KOAD. . at This is one of the beet paying A road* on record. It is about k2f> tn miles long, and yet when put up at auction a few yearn ago was tr bought by Col. I^eroy Springe and la other Lane -astrians for $25,000, m r >11in<5 stock and all. Since that cn time the road has Seen put into pi la tter shape, better rolling stock m purchased and yet, rumor has it, fo thcdividends and profits hare more gi th *n reimbip'sed the owners for tii purchase price and for added expenditure for improvements. ?l In the town of Lancaster, Col. th Ivcroy Springs and his associates co are building a cotton mil1 to cost dr ,000,000. Other improvements ta are on foot, and the building of a ex ad from Chesterfield courthouse m II open up valuable lands. o| The people of Lancaster of a{ isster, of Kershaw and of Fair- sc Id all hare a patronizing aspect ui ward the great Catawba fall, eated near the corner of contact tb these four eounties. And from b cent real estate transfers in that s? ighborhood aggregating about ti 5,000, it is believed that the tb ue is near at hand when this g< otnendous fall of water will be ci ed to direct spindles and looass, w light the streets and to furnish tl ctric car transportation in nearr towns. Catawba Falls is such It; immense cataract that nothing tc n be undertaken on a minor ci ale, and for this reason the people that section are willing to * ei *it. it , . ti uaiKinid Lliilllljr lb enjoying osperitv, and expects to be *1- j 'its in the forefront.
