We answer, certainly not ! If the printed ballot only showed one name the cancellation ot that name would of course make the ballot a blank one; but this is impossible in the case of the official ballot provided for the coming primary, which contain* many names for many offices. This "blanket" ballot is used for convenience, but it is in effect a combination of ballots, one for each office to be voted for. If there should be but one name presented for a certain office and the voter should.scratch that name, the ballot, so far as that otlice is concerned, would ibe blank; but the names voted for the other offices would have to be counted. No voter can be forced to vote for a candidate he does not favor on penalty of not having his rede counted for the candidates he does fa vor. To throw out his ballot if he refused compliance would be L L! t At i<? run mm arm tne candidates he supports.?The State. The nomina' assets of the Sutro Mill are abo> t $115,000, but it is not at all likely that from these can be realized 100 cents on the dollar of indebted ness.
