The action o* the farmers already taken, looking to ii withdrawal of patronage from the fertilizer trust, hat; already had the elfeet of ext racting a longvrinded statement from the chief offender, in which it is attempted to make it appeal that the trust's sellinp price is lower than the eo>l of material* warrants. This statem nt has appeared ;n t'ie news columns p>f severalof the daily papers in thi- Stale and was evident I * paid for at so much a line. It if a little peculiar that ?f the advance of the materials going into the fertilizers has advanced to such figures as to requite an in crease in the price advance of tlie fertilizers manufactured by the companies in the trust?we suv it is a little peculiar that the same causes have not forcee the companies not in the trust to demand higher prices for their poods ! The log was crooked, however, and one day the owner of the Held and fence turned it so that both ends were in the road. The hog, cm* led into ihe log as he hud formerly done and when he had gone through found himself in the ro.nl instead of the ticld. He was a very much astonished hog and looked about in ludicrous, bewilderment?didn't know where he was at nor how he had got there. He tried it again and again and when the story closed he was still cawling in at one end and out at the other and finding himself out in the Mime old road. Tho story illustrates the South Carolina legi-lat ore and tho dispensary law. Somebody turned tho loix on tho out tit. It has un dertaken to amend and reform tho law, and, after a vast quantity of hard work and careful thought, has come out just about where it started.?(Jroonvillc News. Alii-: LINCOLN KILLKD. Senate Has Accepted All the House Amendments. Georgia's .lim Crow Car Law. 'Idie State, lOtli inst. j Yesterday morning the senate agreed t*? the house's position on two important matters the dim Crow car and the dispensary. On the first a neat parliamentary tight was precipitated and it looker i: i? * -i- < > iinr ? iu11m< would refill unti Senator Sheppard pointed to the way out of tho woods. The l?il had heon in conference and tin committee did not agree. Somt senators wanted a free conference and Senator Barnwell led tin tight for receding from the seuati amendments and ho at leagtl won out, carrying the senate will him by a vote of 21 to 17. Tin method by which the senate agtei to the house bill is to instruct tin free conference committee on tin part of the senate to recede fron the senate amendments. In this manner, the original house hi 1 will lie passed and need only tin governor's signature to make il law. The bill, as will be remembered, provides a tirst-class car for eacl race, tho accommodations to be tho same and the uniform rati shall ho three cents per mile. There shall ho no second- class cat nor second-class rate. This is practically the Georgia law. On the dispensary bill ther? was also ;i fight but by a vote ol 20 to 14 the senuto agreed to accept the house amendments an< J thus tho bill will be submitted ti ' the governor for approval. IirNDIiKI) TIIOUSAND FOIi PUBLIC SCHOOLS. | House of Representatives Surprised Itself Yesterday. The State, 10th inst. One Hundred Thousand Dollars! Such is the amount which ; the house of representatives proposes to g ivo to the eommor schools of the State, in addition to the regular 'i-mill Iev\- and the poll tax. The appropriation hill as it was sent in from the ways and means committee provided for an appropriation of ?*50,000, in round numbers, to meet the expense- of the State during the fiscal year, this money to he raised on a levy of 5 mills. The tirotiosed Iinnrn. I ?I ? print ion to free schools will run the totnl up 10 $050,000 and the levy must he mined one half of a mill to meet this. I N EX PK<*TKI>. The adoption of this appropriation was very unexpected, and no doubt a surprise to those whosuggestcal it. It was proposed as a 'bluff" by those who were opposed to the appropriation of $*27,500 to South Carolina college. The opposition had contended that such appropriations to col leges discriminated against the common schools. The advocates of the college appropriation replied that they were willing to spend more on the common, schools. The opposition evident lv thought such statements insincere and offered an amendment that $100,('00 l?e given the common schools in 01 ler to make the South Carolina college accept $'25,000 as a compromise. But the bluff failed, as the amendment was adopted. The gentleman who proposed the $100,000 amendment. Mr C K Robinson of | t Pickens, evidently meant to vote j for it and was in earnest, out it is the general impression that thos? > who had opposed the South Carolina appropriation had not expected the amendment to be 1 i adopted, or if it was they may I have suspected and expected that j the senate would kill it. But from the talk in the lobbies the senate will oass the amendment. > * ; Columbia, Feb 1'2?The house , did little today beyond discussing > J T r> ( j the an4i trust bill, which has not been acted on. Columbia, Feb 10?There was u hot Iiiz 111 in the House of Representatives todav, over Mr. \Y J Johnson's bill to prohibit the I operation of trusts in this State. There is hearty sympathy for the bill, but some fear it will be suicidal to enact a law until some legislation can be effected. The bill was a copy of the Texas law. In view of the fact that the Virginia-Carolina Chemical Company has purchased nearly all tho phosphate plant- in the State, the bill is of peculiar significance. l)e oaie was adjourned until Monday During the debate Mr. Weston produced :i newspaper clipping, purporting to be an interview with W J Bryan, in The New-1 York Journal, quot in<? that jrent le- | man as favoring national legisla j lion as against State.
