Religion is our comforter in this vale of tears ; it l?ind& uj> tlie broken hearted, and points to the land of blessedness, 'whore the wicked consej from troubling, and the weary are at rest." Religion, viewed in its true light, is altogether lovely and desirabl many persons think, to be religious is to bo melancholy, taking no pleasure ; how much mistaken ! To be the servant of God, is to be happy; 'tis a sunlight illuming our darkness ; setting tho?o who were in bondage at liberty. The pleasures of this world excite, strives for happiness in vain ; there is no peace for him in this world nor in that to come. Religion brings peace of mind, and the hope o f everlasting life, a Messed nssu ranee of "an inheritance iiiiih?fil???l ? ,.! flint fadetli not away." Does disease lay him on a hod of languishing | The Ford line promised ; to "make all his bed iu hi* sickness. In ' famine he wijl have the sustcnauce of life. The Psalmist says lie had "never seen tiie righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." In poverty, or in wealth, his promises are sure. Although friends forsake us, the tongue of slander revile us ; yet, if we are children of God, we can he happy in la is love. Our hearts i purified by his grace, he will make His temples, and feed our souls with heaven-1 ly manna. Our treasures in heaven, and our hearts there, the storms of adversity may vent thuir worst upon our heads, and still we can calmly look forward to | the tune when the Lord will say, "'tis. Both are derived from the same source?Kail It is the gift of God. Preceeding the time of the apostles the faith of miracles was imparted. Iron was made to swim, the dead were raised, the I sun and moon were made to stand still, t he mouths of lions were stopped, and Is rael passed through the lied sea : and in ' the time of Christ and the Apostles, signs and wonders were wrought also; but the object of those miracles, in the time of the Prophets was to display the power and government of God to the Jews; and those in the time of Christ and the apos ties were to cstablis'h his Mesiahship, and tliAt the ministry of the apostles was do rived from him. Those ends have been attained, and those purposes accoin plished. The object of failh now is to sanctify produce a godly life! no Christian can now pray in failh that God i would enable him to remove a mountain. | Buch a prayer would be profano. We would not bo understood to bold that faith is less prevalent with God in these latter days than formerly, The prayer of faith always prevails. i?ut we must not mistake prayer for such things as we wili uninfluenced by the Spirit of God, for tho?e which he wills and purposes to accomplish. If the question is ask ed how can we know what is his will ?? We answer; we cannot always know.? What he has revealed in his word we do not know?as for instance?that it is his purpose to establish Christ* Kingdom in the world, For that, therefore, we may pray without limitation to our desires ; but when wo pray for a special manifes- 1 tation of Ins grace, in a particular church, or a revival of religion at a particular time, we must oiler up our desires in subjection to the Divine will. 80 if we have a sick friend, in proving for hi) recovery we must say "not my wtM, hut thine be done." In those ca.so?, as (/oil has not revenled his will we can know that it is only by the event ; and our beat evidence that wu ara heard is, that we desire from lha heart, that his will should be done, We think the above accords with the experience ot Christians; and with the belief that we can pray in faith otily fur uch things as are agreeable to the will of God, and that then his Spirit works in the heart of the believer te ask for them.
