Smith, the president of the state organization, could not accept the invitation to ad dress the, meetiDg, so he sent Mr* F. H. Hyatt, of Columbia, who all along has manifested a deep in terest .in this farmers7 movement. ?This gentleman ss ade a very prac tical, business-like address. First, ne expressed in no uncertain terms his disappointment at the bad condition of our roads, having driven over the road from Tren ton to Edgefield, which piece of road he sa} s can be made a model I for not over $1,000. Heavy sales of tags do not necessarily mean a correspond ingly heavy use of fertilizers, says Mr. Hyatt. Many of the tags have been put upon meal that has been fed to stock, many more will be redeemed at the end of the season, which when deducted from gross skies of tags will indicate a re duction of actual fertilizers used. ; Mr. Hyatt is a strong advocate *f diversifying crops-making hay, raising stock, etc. He said some 1 armera spend half of the year tilling gras? and the other half buying it. The union meetiug at Hom's Cr?.ek was largely attended last Saturday and Suuday. ?All the queries were ably discussed by the different brethren present. Brethren S. B. Mays and T. G. Talbert made the speeches o? the day on Saturday. Rev. 'Mitchell, of Parksville, preached the mis sionary sermon, which was great ly enjoyed by all who heard it. A good collection was taken for State Missiotis. The music was very good indeed. Miss Ora Lau dram, one of the accomplished music teachers of the S. C. C. I. presided at the orgau with e.ise and dignity. The hospitality of the good people ol Horn's Creek was all that could be asked for. The table was loaded dowu with the very best to eat. After all that, great crowd of people had eaten, there was eLOUgh iefl to have fed that many more peoplf. You; correspondent, with Rev. J. P. Mealii g and Hon. T. G. Tal bert was entertained at the hos pitable herne of Mrs. Lona Tal bert. The next union meets with i,he Red Hill church. A grpat rain fell last Saturday afternoon which washed the laud in many places. Hail fell for a little while, but was uot enough to damage the crops. Mr. Eddie Bush hat, been sick for several days but v.e are glad to report him able to bp out again. Mr. Walter Holajos has purr chased a new buggy. Mission ary union to hold their meeting here at Red Hill. We do hope that every church iu the ftssocia tiou will be repres?uted in their meeting by two or more lady delegates. We are looking for a great crowd of ladies that day au:l all who come will receive a hearty welcome, by our churoh and comr munity. Master J. T. has been real sick for several days.
