Solicitor Abney AmoLg the Senators On Sunday Senator Burnside invited tho committee lo spend the day at his country residence near Bristol. He took the whole parly, consisting of Senators Butler, Beck, Chandler and Robbins, with Col. Abney of South Carolina, up in a steam yacht and gave them a?, elegant dinner. Thc sail up and down Narragan sett Bay was delightful, the yatch pass ing near the United States frigate Cbiisid lation with the Annapolis midshipmen, and the sloop-of-war Saratoga with her one hundred and fifty naval apprentices on board. The New York yacht squad ion was in the harbor, and among other famed vessels cussed was the Mohawk, which capsized two years ego and drown ed Com. Garner and his family and guests. She is now called the Eager, and is a Gov %ernnient coast survey vessel. Mr. Astor's Ambassadress, the largest yacht in Amer ^a, and the cutter Active, probably the fastest yacht in the world, are also in port, with some thirty others of less note. -Newport Correspondence of News and Courier. Death of a Well-Known Colored Man On Sunday last, thc family and friends of "Toni Bacon" laid him in the grave, with every feeling of love and every cere mony of respect. He was widely known and so weli beliked as to bea privileged character among all colors, chu ses and ages. The young gentlemen of our town were much attached to him ; many of them treated him with unbounded kind ness in his hst illness, and most of them followed him to the grave. He was our grandmother's house-servant in our earli est days, and we can safely say that throughout his life of CO years, in pros perity and adversity, in peace and war, he was ever faithful, useful and kind hearted. May God rest his soul ! You, who are the exponents of educa tion, the sentinels on the watch-towers of knowledge, the leading stars in the iirtna nentof information, are earnestly requested to come lo the aid and support of the "Teachers Association'' just organizing in ?dgefield, and insure it a success, equal, il not superior, to similar organizations in stituted in the sister counties of thc State.
