Perhaps greater enthusias'u was never maui fested by any nesenblago in this city than on the appearance of the President. Everybody wanted to see hnne baixl with the hero and states man. President Davis cordially shook hands with all, the young and old, who could get to him in the narrow path allowed him to walk to the curs after alighting from the carriage. lie was fairly be sieged on tall side?. W e have neither space -no- time to attempt a report tven of his brief -peeth. It was earnest, eloquent, patriotic and impressive in a high de gree. He expressed confidence in the success of our arms, relying upon the ardent patriotism of our people, the justice of our cause and the farer of Heaven. Mr. Toombs and Col. Wigfall, also made a ftw eloquent and patriotic r.marks. The cars movtd off while the latter was speaking,, amidst the deafening cheers of the people. The President and both the other gentlemen were frequently in terrupted by the most enthusiastic applause. All were delighted with the impressive dignity. united with a gentle serenity, in the appearance and bearing of the President. Col. Toombs, we learn, remained over until to day.
