(noticed in our last,) is seldom mealy mouthed, !phen she treats of foibles in society, particlarly those pertaining to her own sex. The following, being the leader in her paper of the 1st instant, is a sample of the way she handles one subject, which we feir is quite too common, for the good of society, and the happiness of fami lies.-Ex. AN INNOCENT FLIRTATION.-Why not as well say an innocent theft, or a harmless -4 murder? It is not everybody who under stais what the words mean. Some very silly young girls, just out of boarding school, - consider it a sort of compliment to be called flirts. They blush, and simper, and pretend to have just as many beaux as they can find fresh fools to angle for them, little aware what desperate habits are forming their charmed circles around them, beyond which in a few years it will be out of their power to move. One can bear to be cheated by a cloth merchant or a grocer, although the transaction merits unlimited contempt; but _ to be deceived by the lips and the eyes, the smiles and the speech of young hearts that God designed should be free from intention al guilt, if any of His 'creation, makes wounds that even time cannot heal. Heaven knows how many heart-bardened men walk the earth, soured and unhappy, finding false hood every where-looking crookedly upon all creations of harmony, and seeing distor tion in everything, because their natures have been warped by some cruel deception. Like the melted iron, glowing and rich, they might have been shaped to forms of endur ing beauty-but the heavy hammer of de ceit came down, flattened and twisted, and left them cold, black, shapeless masses. The victim of a flirt, in proportion to his singleness of nature, his wholesome and implicit faith in his kind, his generous, un. warped sense of justice, and the breadth and depth of his love, oftentimes becomes the more morose, unyielding, woman-hating man. And many such do marry from pru. dential motives, after the fatal change, and lead their partners most unhappy lives. But young school girls-finished, accom plished women, are not the only flirts. Shame that we must say it, and to their absolute and eternal disgrace be it spoken, some married women are flirts. Not even . the sacredness of the vows which their hus. bands confide in them, nor the opinion of the world, will deter them from this most satanic love of vanity and misrule. Not even the babes whose dove's eyes rebuke them at every glance, and whose innocence is a continual prayer for their unworthy mothers, can wake them to a realization of the exceedingly steep precipice upon whose brink they stand swaying to their fall. And what shall we say of such? That they are murderers, striking virtue, bleeding, to the earth. That they are suicides, strang. ling the spiritual within them. That they ..are thieves stealingr trust and confidence from the hearts that shelter them with lhon. est love.- They are cnunterfeits, passing for genuine the smiles they lavish upon their husbands. That they are liars bartering their truth and their honesty for a villian's favor-that they combine in short a variety of every sin and every rank defilement un der heaveni. Such women sometimes excuse them selves, by saying that their husbands ar e niot'true to them in thought, wvord and deed, and therefor'e their own derelictions. DIED, at his residence in Choctaw county Ala., on Monday 21st of July, Mr. JAMES TERRY, in the 66th year of hit age. Mr. TERRY was a man of prominence in whatever community he lived. His palmier days were spent in South Carolina, where he graduated at an early age with distinction. He was for many years after a successful attorney in the village of Edgefield, and a co-partner of George McDufie. Ho hiss re sided in this State for the past seven years, where he died leaving an interesting family and numerous friends to mourn his loss. COMMERCIAL. HAMBURG, August 4. This Institution is peculiarly adapted to meet the wants of those parents, who wish for their daughters a carefdijand thorough training in all the branches of a solid and polite education. Many parents prefer to place their daughters in a select circle of pupils, rather than among the crowded inmates of large institutions. To such this Seminary offers peculiar inducements, by its perfect adaptation to their wants. It furnishes all the advantages offered in the most extensive educational establishments, while it se cures at the same time a degree of careful and thorough training, hardly attainable under other cir cumstances. To aid in the instruction of the pupils, no expense has been spared in building and furnishing the In stitute. its Maps; Charts, Cabinets, Chemical and Philosophical.apparatus, and Pianos, have cost seve ral thousand dollars. These are regarded as helps in the work of education, and in the hands of in dustrious and experienced teachersthey are of great assistance. Their presence is also a sufficient guar antee, that on the part of the Teachers, there is a liberality of view and an earnestness of purpose, in the work of education without which success is never attainable. The great ends which are pro posed to bo accomplished, demand the use of the best means, and these are liberally furnished. Five years of prosperity and success sufficiently demonstrate that the claims which are made by the friends of this Institute, for its superiority in all that pertains to excellence, are not without foundation. The following change will be made in the terms and general regulations for the coming year. 1st. The Academical year will be divided into two Sessions, (instead of three Sessions as formerly.) The first commencing on the 22d Sept.-the second on the 22d February. 2. All bills for Tuition, will be presented at the time of the pupil's entrance, and settlement will be expected, where the money is not convenient, by note, payable in 60 days from the time of entrance. Parents will thus kno.v the exact amount of their bills, and the Teacher will be saved any future trouble in collection. The rates of Tuition under the new arrangement will be as follows : Academical Depart't, per session of 5 months $20,00 Collegiate " " 25,00 OrTIONAL STUDIES. For which the charge is extra.
