Mr. Arthur Calhoun, who Is so well known and universally liked here, with bis charming bride, Ik (-pending a few days with his father, Mf. KJwiu Calbonn. Ou last Friday evening they were the central figures of a delightful reception given In their nonor by the groom's parents. While we must cite the reader to our city I editors column for details, we can personally testily as to the general effect. We bave v never seen tastier decorations and we ha\e never experienced heartier good cheer. Mr. Calhoun comes of most distinguished ancestors; and gentlemanly bearing and hospitality have always been one of the famllj characteristics. Mr. Arthur Calhoun was most heartily congratulated on all sides as the luckiest man Id the world. With a lovely woman by bis side, a prosperous business and friends everywhere, the hour tfly all too last. The happy pair will leave today for their home In UeLdersonvllle, N. C. While their many friends here regret that their stay Is S( short, they hope to see them frtqu^nt ylu old Abbeville. M'rlcome Home. Mr. Walter Vlsanska, a good lawyer aDd _? a iQ in irttrn oUilInC hlk a goou muu Vi Almu is, ID IU ivn. .....? fattier. Long Unit ago the Lord toid a Jew named A bra id to gel himself together and go Into a new country, where be might become a ruler, rich and pcwerlul. Tbe Jews untti tble day recognize tbe wisdom ot tbe command or tbe advice wblcb was given to tbeii distinguished progenitor and tbey act upon It. When ibe sous of a rich Jew grow U> manhood, tbey straightway go from beau Into a new conntry, and right then and there t hey begin to carve out for themselves a useI ful and a successful career. Mr. Walter Vlsansfea, we know will stand high In his profession, even as blb brotbei 8am stands high In the Medical piolesslon 1l tbe same city. Mr. G. A. VlEan6ka of this town Is doubly blessed. He has acquired an abundance 01 tb Is world's goods, and then be has reason t? be proud of bringing up a whole lot ol good children. We always rejoice with the man wbo hat good children. Tbey are more to be prized ' *- than mountains Of eold. Colonial Guns. Mr. Laik Wilson brought a coupleofold KDDt lo Abbeville a lew days ago tbat mam have seen service Id tbe Indian Wars ol Colonial 11mes. While no minute examination has been made to determine tbe age ol tbe pieces, a glance at either la sufficient to , satisfy tbe (spectator tbat tbey are venerable with age. One Is an oid flint and steel rifle, while tbe other Is a flint and steel musket. Tbe breecb of tbe market Is less than a foot In lengtb and Its size and length In fall would make It seem more at borne on wheels. If tbe Immortal David Crocket carried & riflfc with a barrel as long as the one exhibited by Mr. Wilson we are not surprised that squirrels meekly came down and surrenderor thomiipivph when thev found out for sur* that It was Mr. Crocket tbat pointed tbe gun Tbe old guns are now Id tbe bands of Mr. johD Clark of this city. Tbey will probably be sent to some museum. * ' ' The Ki hies Tbe Canadian Band known as the "Kilties" played 10 a good audience last Monday after, noon. Tbe performance was a rare musical n treat and enjoyed by all who were fortunah enongb to te present. Tbe members of the band were dressed lr Scotch Highlander style, which Is a most ptcturefque costume. Under the Influence of such harmony f-s tbe Kilties produce all kind of suggestions crowd Into the mind, we are under a spel', we think that perhaps "oar life's star balb bad elsewhere Us setting, and cometh from afar, perhaps from tbe banks of the Bonnie Dundee. Tbe Fishers Horn Flpe and tbe sword dance were especially good. Tbese old time melodies when "sweetly played In tnne" are good tor the soul. OaKbtto Be Pat to Bed, to: Tbe Atlanta Georgian Is "taking stock" for "? ~ r\ In tn^tplnrf ornnnH fnr a WO X/CLUUCI aio 1U IW?<U6 ? v--- ? Presidential nominee to bring U3 to a glorious defeat. Tbe Georgian talks of tirover, and Billy, and HearBi, aud Belmont, and "white wings," and "ultraconservatlsm," and of "definite policy." The Press and Banner believes that the Democratic part.v ought to shoot Its "Demrcratlc donkey," stop all talk of persons or leaders, and search the woods, the camp or tbe depths of the ocean, or the shafts of the mine for a "definite principle" or a "definite # policy." Put Grover, and Billy, and Hearst and Belmont In their little beds. Let tbe Democrats stand tor something else than men. Let tbe Democratic parly study for something else than personal popularity of Its candidate upon which to baee its hopes of suceess. ** V * Episcopal Convocation. This Is an interesting week with tbe Episcopalians. Distinguished brethren from | all paits of ibe diocfse'are here. Including | Bishop Capers. The visits of the Bishop re always interesting occasions, and especially Is It so at the time of the Convocation. The preacher aud the people would be glad to see you at one or more of the meet 1 ngs. which are going on this week. * A Friend of the Carrlerti. It gives this office pleasure to note that amongst the able friends of K. F. D. Carriers mentioned In the R. F. D. JS'ews printed In Washington, D. C., Congressman Aiken Is given a prominent place. The News bud his picture and a long extract from one of his upeecbes on the subject. We know our Congressman's good qualities aud we are not surprised to find that they are being known by people generally, who i are keeping an eye on the work of Congreea. I Moving In. Hon. F. B.
