James uniton mcMiuan, miani son 01 Air. ) and Mr?. James L. McMillan, aped thirteen months, died yesterday about 11 o'clock, after I a short but painful Illness of two weeks. Ev' erythlng that the best medical skill could . suggest, and kind and loving hands could do | seemed of no avail. Ltttle James was lovely and fair In life, but was even more beautiful I In death, too pure for earth, he has been call " ed to the eternal city, whose maker and builder Is God, there forever to pralue Him (who while upon earth said, "Suffer little chil dren to come unto me, and forbid them not, lor of such Is the kingdom of heaven." The luneral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Clifton, after which his remains were laid to rest In the quiet city of the dead at Upper k Long Cane. The grief stricken family have ' the sympathy of many friends whose hearts f are bowed with theirs 1n deepest sorrow. I PROTRACTED MEETING. r The protracted meeting held In the Meth) odlst church last week closed on Sunday k night. These services were well attended " throughout by large, earnest and attentive ) congregations. The preaching was earnest, I solemn and Impressive and the divine power * was graciously manifest, and many felt that f It was good to have assembled themselves to k get her in the bouse of the Lord and to wait upon His word. May the word so faithfully and zealously spoken bring forth much Iruit to the honor and glory ot the Lord. The membership were greatly refreshed, while the Impenitent were made to reflect and take heed to their ways. .Four persons were united to the church. MILFORD-WHITE MARRIAGE. On last Wednesday evening, in the Presbyterian church, Dr. C. A. Milford and Miss Mary White were united In holy wedlock. The large and handsome church was most tastily decorated by loving friends for the occasion. The church was crowded to Its utI most capacity. The grand Mendelsohn wedr ding march was beautifully and sweetly ren dered by Mrs. James S. Cochran upon the * magnificent organ. At the appointed hour r the organ chimed out its sweetest sounds, A and the bridal couple, with bridesmaids and groomsmen entered and took their respective places in the.pulpit recess, and around the beautiiul arch of evergreens making a pretty semi-circle, while the bride and groom stood under a beantlful bell of white chrysanthemums suspended from the arch. And now amid the low sweet strains of murmuring rnus.c these solemn words were heard? "Whom God hath joined together, let not man put asunder," thus they were pronounced man and wife. After the marriage ceremony a large number of friends were invited to the residence of Mr. L. W. White, father of the bride, where a grand reception was given from nine until twelve o'clock. The happy bride waR the recipient of many handsome and costly presents. The evening was as lovely as a midsummer's dream; and "The queen of the night, the silver crowned queen, Sent her beautiful raylets to brighten the scene." The bridal couple left next day via the S. A. L. for Ni-w York and other cities, and places of pleasure, carrying with them the best wishes of hosts of friends. They are expect ed to return the latter part of this week. THEATRE AND Ol'KRA. The opera played last week by the David A. Kelly troupe was greatly enjoyed by our people. Mr. J. A. Hill, who engaged the troupe and fitted up the stpge so tastily, and operalike, received many compliments for his beautiful stage scenery, anu the grand success of the Introduction 01 his first opera. Our opera-going ladles will have to put on city airs, and don their pretty little "opera bonnets," as the tall plumed and wide brimmed hats are "un-clty"-llke at the opera. OI'ERA FRIDAY EVENING. At the Court Opera House the comedy drama, entitled, "The Burglar," will be rendered by the famous aDd world renowned troupe A. Q,. Kcammons. This Is a play of intense Interest and probably no drama so strongly appeals to every emotion or points to a better moral. One of the principal points of interest is the role enacted by a little child of six years. Mr. James A. About thirtyty-flve delegates will be present, all of whom we believe have been assigned homes. During the meeting of Hie chapter a grand reception will be tendered them by the ladles of Abbeville.
