Abbeville County never had as many miles f good roads as we now have. In all dlrecons where Captain Lyon has had his force, le roads are in first clans order. He is now L work ou the famous Gordon Lane, and hen he has milt the Job, a good road will lie etween Due West and Abbeville. The peole of the county owe Captain Lyon a deht f gratitude for faithful services rendered, o man could have done better, and very few >uld have done as well. Miss Aggie Robinson, of MrCormick, visited her brother's family, Mr. J. N. Robinson, this week. Mrs. Ross, of Charlotte, came with the bridal party and spent a day. RECEPTION IN HON OK OF REV. AND MBS. T. W. SLOAN. Last Thursday evening Rev. T. W. Sloan and his lovely and amiable bride arrived on the 3 P. M. train, and from 8 to 11 o'clock a reception was given them. It was given at the hotel. Every place was utterly packed with old and young eager to meet Mrs. Sloan. The decorations of autum leaves, crysanthemums and roses were tastily arranged and festoons gracefully swung from windows, <fec. At 8 o'clock supper was announced. Salads, turkey, cake, Ice cream and everything that goes to make a good supper was there. We think we mistake not to say tb?re were near 800 in nil and such a gathering was never seen in Troy. There were many visitors, too many to name. All thought It a "swell affair" and our much loved pastor should (eel highly complimented that so many came to offer congratulations ana good wishes to him and his better half. We cannot olose until we say we think he" has chosen one of the most charming ladles, and we feel sure she will be quite an acquisition to our town and commu nlty. She was exquisitely attired in white brocaded satin and diamonds. May their sojourn here be as pleasant and bright as this balmy weather, and may they always see the sunshine of (iod's love through every tear that shall be shed. "Nick."
