The Christinas soiree of the two Collpges hikes place In the Female Chapel 23th December. The ladies festival came off last Friday, Iftth. It. was decidedly the hit of the season. A number of whole cukes and whole baked turkeys were sold to different individuals. Some members of families who could not u'et out. had their supper sent to them lit their homes. The oyster supper and the fish poml added much to the occasion. The doors opened at .1 o'clock and by half-past ? o'clock every thing was sold out. The fish pond sold out and was replenished a number of time0, the same article frequently selling more than once. The uttermost good cheer prevailed and "It was good to be there." The receipts amounted to $185 or SI!*). This money goes direct to the Church Building Committee. They have about tin'shed up Ihe building and rtnd a deficit of some two thousand dollars. One of the most delightful and satisfactory of my life wasa recent trip to Erwln's mill. I lelt Abbeville on Tuesday, the 16th instant by ttie II 4~> train. On taking the Greenville and Columbia train, at Hodges, I met Mr. MeMurtry. that good old Irish ecntleman, who is lather in law of Mr. M.
