WM^HEREAS information has been received by V V this Department thai a certain fre?- man of color, named Tom Archer, was, on or aboui fh^ 12il? of March last, feloniously taken and canied away from the house of widow Hill, near the Fish Dam Ford, in t he District of Chester, by-two while men, who called themselves Alexander Archer and Harris. ^ NOW KNOW YE, -That to the intent the said Archer and Harris may be brought toleg.il trial and condign punishment for the abduction and offence aforesaid, I do hereby offer a reward of three hundred dollars for the a;>f>rehension and delivery of the said Archer and Harris, or one hundred and fifty dollars for the delivery of either of them, into any jail in this State. It is also stated that two white men of the above names were at Kingston, in.Autauga county, Alaba ma, about the 8tb or 9th of .April last, with the said boy Tom Archer, and there offered him for sale as a slave; hut on the said boy declaring he was a free man, no sale could be effected ; and that they carried him from there, and said they were eoinsr to Greens borough. Said Negro is well proportioned, about G feet high, and of black complex ion ? high forehead, a somewhat prominent nose, full face, and no whiskers ; he has a scar on the inner ankle of (I presume) the left foo', produced by a burn, and on one of his arms a mark resembling a letter S. Howard speak-* With plausibility and ease; is rather assuming in his address, yet mild and humble in his manners. He is a keen, shrewd fellow ? walks erect and fast, and is apt to bear uncommonly on his toes when hurried. According to his own accouut, he originally belonged to Joshua Lee, a planter near Clinton, VaM to which place it is supposed he will di rect his course, or to Norfolk or Richmond He had on when he went away, blHe pantaloons ari3 coat, ei ther a blue or yellow vest, and a black hat. He took away with him a pair of saddle-bags, and is supposed to have a free ticket.
