I understand that the Board of Public Works lia\e :t ? 1 ?7|>t t* < i a ^en** lal plan for Court- i 'oust in State, varying a lit.ie in sizt , in proportion to the diHerem e of the I-'n trie s in which the > art' erected. I this plan durability, strength, con venience, neateness and cconomx have heen consulted. Havin<r had n an opportunity of looking at its plan, I ha\e no hesitation in paying, that the erection of this building uia^ be considered a strong evidence of pub lic improvement. I he size wiil ln conveuient aud the arrangement of the interior >v ill he far superior to lis ? of any within the ?tate ; it will he in height two stories, and its first floor w ill contain a large lobby for the stairs, through which \ou enter the Court room, a spacious Court loom and two offices. The arrange ment of the Court ro<|pj) is remai lia ble for its convenience, affording ac commodation to the Judges anil other officers, the Law\ei>, Jurors ami such ot the t oinmum'y as attend either upon business or as spectators, upon the most eligible plan. In thel Court room there is also a gallery of Considerable widtlf, ornamented with neat columns, extending the w hole length of the building, in front of the judges bench, w hich adds much to the appearance and Convenience of the spectators. On the second floor there will be five offices with a large passage, into which they will open. Tne walls of the building will he of brick with stone sills to the doors and windows and the oilier materials are to be or the l>est quality. From a view of the work already executed, umler the immediate inspection of the contractor, Vir. Grafton, w ho has been much engage^ in public >vorks, and of Mr. an ex cellent workman, 1 make tio doubt, that the whole wiil he of a superior character, the finish will be particu larly neat, dbtirely devoid of thit coarseness which disgraces so nian\ of our public buildings. In the ex terior appearance there are no ex pensive ornament^ but it possesses a simple neatness very appropriate to a building intended for its use. Buildings of this Jund excite a re* spect for and add dignity to our in* gtiiutious, arid the Legislature deserve our approbation, tor establishing a f^stom for internal improvement by which our public money is so well expended aud the Hoard of Public W orks for their attention to tins branch not the least of the many duties assigned them, , * A Spectator.
