The Had news was received here Saturday of the death that morning in Charlotte of Mi p. Mary Witherspoon, wife of our esteemed lormer fellow-towns man, Dr. B. J. Witherspoon Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Witherspoon and Mr. J. H Witherspoon. of this place, and Mr. John T. Stevens, of Kershaw, went u> Charloite Saturday afternoon io attend the funeral Sundav of the beloved wile of their kinsman, Dr. Wilherspcon. Mrs. Witherspoon was a iadv of marked culture and attractive personality, and she had many friends and acquaintances in Lancaster, where she at one time resided, who were sorely grieved 'o hear of her untimely end The Charlotte Observer of Sunday gave the following account of Mrs. Witherspoon's death: After an illness ol but a lew days, Mrs. B. J. Witherspoou, wife of Dr. B. .J. Witherspoou, died yesterday morning before noon at her home in Dil worth. The news of her passing away was lor the most part unexpected and came as a puiuful shock to hundreds of friends. Belore her marriage Mrs. Witherspoou was Miss Mary Grier, daughter ot the late Col. and Mrs. Thomas Grier. the latter belore her marriage, Margaret E. lioyle. Born and reared in Charlotte, she heie giew to wo s manhood among the associates of her childhood days and early youth. To these she was bound by the tenderest ties ot sincere Iiiendship The regard ot all who knew her was hers, won by her graces of character. In 1898 she was wedded to Dr. II J. Witherspoon, who had just located in Charlotte tor the practice of medicine. Since then, as before, she had made her home in this city. Having been born here No vember 23d, 1872, Mrs. Witherspoon was nearly 30 years of age. She was educated at the I'resby ferian College and later took a two years' course in Columbia, S. C. An acute headache with which she suffered a week ago was the first symptom or indication ot approaching illness. Gradually het condition became worse until Friday, when it became critical. Clariiston, Ga., spec al in j Atlanta Journal: Felix Cash, 18-year old son ol Mrs Hen Cash, 'living near Clarkston, was struck by lightning yesterday afternoon about 2 o'clock ami instantly killed. The accident occurred at Mavson's mill, oil the Lawrenceville road, near Clarkston. The I young man and nis nrotner liad gone to their field to gather a load of potatoes. Alter loading the wagon, Felix started to drive the team hack to the house and his brother left on 1 foot over a path which the wag on could not travel. Finding that the wagon did not reach the house promptly, the brother of Felix went back to look tor him. lie found him lying dead across the wagon shaft.
