Jeffcoat, an Orangeburg county fanner, was brought to the Columbia Hospital to-day with a buckshot in his brain, one in his 9calp and two in the shoulder, as a result of being shot from ambush early last night a few miles from his home. Willi the shot in his brain, Mr. Jeftcoat walked a mile and a half to the home of Caleb Butler, colored, on the road between the scene of the shooting and Jeffcoat's home. Appointments of S. C. Winston-Salem special in Charlotte Observer ; Mr. J. W. Hendricks, one of the most popular and efficient men in the revenue service, was shot and instantly killed this morning about o'clock by one of the Smitktown blockadors, the shoot ing taking place in the heart of the settlement while Mr. Hen dricks and several of his fellow officers were making a third rai l on this notorious blockading district. ? j.
