The Observ r Attorney General L- on hu? wot an important legal victory f<?i the State in a decision li ed in the Supreme Court to-day. Iti the decision the Supreme Court unanimously reverses itself Several months ??o t he courts rendc > ed a decision exempting the British-American Mortgage Company from the operation ot the new coporatiou licen-o tax law, which yie'ds an income to the State ol about $70,000 a year by a lax of half a mill 011 the paid-in capita] stock of domes'io corporiions an^l a hall mill oil each dollor's worili of properly in the case of foreign corporations The former decision exempted the British-American Mortgage Companyon the ground that as a foreign corporation ii was doing business as a natutal born citizen of this State anu tiol as any kind of corporation. This decision caused the domestic corporatioi s to sit up and take notice and they began ad ion to have the law set aside as to them on the ground thai to tax them and not the foreign corporation was showing unlawful discrimination. It is not believed that any sane person can read without dis gust ol the act of that Maryland mob which after kicking a negro murderer to death, buried the body in a swamp, returned I he next day, dus: it up, and riddled it with bullets and finally burned it after soaking it with oil. While the corpse blazed the frenzied humans did a war dance around the pyre. The mere recital of this frenzv of passion disgusts and nauseates. The mental picture conjured by a narration of the gruesome details is hideous and ghastly and causes wonderment that men can sink so to the verge ot savagery. Yet this orgy is but the logicalsequetice of mob rule. From an or Uerly lynching to the wanton revelry of crapulent brutishness of the Maryland affair is but a natural retrogression. The one is to be traced to the other. 1? ih are begotten by a disregard for the law, which is in >n's | roteehon from primeval lust-, and to a common cause both are to be ascribed.
