Wednesday, August 8, 1906. 1 1ATH0NI7E HOME MERCHANTS. Some of our contemporaries S.-e waging war on the "mailorder" business. It appears that a number of cities and towns ,v 21, suy persons have acquired the Ha bit of patronizing distant mail-order houses, instead ol Ibuying from their local iner chants. We hear of no complaint cjf the kind in Lancaster, though it is likely that mail order houses have patrons in this community as well as elsewhere. If Mere are any here, we trust fj'tat they will proceed at once to 5row ''beautifully less." There >8 110 excuse whatever for a Lancastrian to send elsewhere tor what he or she wants in the way of any kind of a dommodity. The merchants of tihis town carry stocks of goods that will compare favorably in quality, variety and price with tfiose to be found anywhere. If one should happen to want someifting not usually carried in jficck, there isn't a merchant in Lancaster who will not tak<! pleasure in making a special j order for it. Governor Folk, of Missouri,! ray ; "1 do not believe in the mail order citizen. If a place is iiood enough for a man to live in jrul to make his money in, if is I jiood enough to spend his money *ji." And he ia entirely right. 'The patriotic, public spirited , o?'izen will spend iiis money in his own community ?in other I words, will patronize his home ' merchant, who helps to pay fiaxes, support schools and oh u relies and contributes gener -illy to the upbuilding or the town. The mail-order concern, on the other hand, helps to bear taone of your burdens, in the way of taxation or otherwise, coninoutes hot a dollar to the development of tli? community, It does nothing to advance i your interests, and every dollar | fit takes out. of the town is a loss to the home merchant ami infjirecily to ttie entire communi '?v. Bo "cut out" the mail-order j business and stick to your local ^ merchants. * i ?Attention is called to Mer- ' ah ant Cloud's "August Specials'' C ux today's News.
