"Legislative Snap Shots." By Representative Foster? Lining Up of the Dispensary and Anti-Dispensary T^orres?Rur.ket Shon Bill. Lien Law and Other Matters?State Politics. After a recess from 18th inst., the Legislature re-convened Monda> The Bucket Shop people are lobbying the Senate to defeat the anti bucket shop bill passed by thf* House. The memorial exercises in memory ot ttie late Altamont Mo^s were held on the 18th inst. Thj following made appropriate speeches: Senators Manning and McLend, Representatives Clifton, Fraser, Richards, Banks, Haskell, McOoll, McMaster, Frost, Dohb3 and Sinkler. I do not. think that bill is so very much better than the present 11a w The anti-dispenearites will more than likely take up the Morgan bill. This is a local option measure, if it passeR we will have high license, dispensary or prohibition. The bill provides for $3,000 license, and all liquor to be sold under dispensary re strictions. Mr. Dobbs of Sumter is after Glemson College, and he has introduced a bill to establish an Agricultural College. There is some criticism about the large amount of money used by Clemson. Glemson spent over $240,000 last year. I think this far too much money, all things considered. Mr. Nash of Snarf-anburc has a bill to provide lor a Bank Ex aminer. W? now have over eight hundred bills before us for consider ation. Now and then one hears state politics discussed. The chiet interest is centered in the Governor's race. Sneaker Smith is far in I he lead in the Legislature. However, Senator Manning in considered as an able and strong opponent. Senator T. G. McLeod of Lee and Representative E. M. Seabrtok, of Chaileston are racing lor Lieutenant G >ver *?or. Representative VV. W. ruce ol Marlborough is out for iutanl General. Solicitor G. This bill provided ix on all incomes over $1,000. ly not tax incomes from $1.00 if at all. Mr. Fraser introduced a joint resolution providing lor iiveincm bers ol the Supreme Court. The people will vcte on this question this summer. Mr. DeVoreof Edgefield wants IU SttlitttUUO WUUJUII UUUViUlS (U the county poor-housa farm. Mr Kershaw is urging the corn pulsory education bill again this session. Mr. llamel favors the measure and I am opposed to it. Mr Edwards has a bill requiring agriculture to be taught in public schools. J. iiarry Foster. Jan. 22, 1906. Fifteen Cents Cotton. Is good for the yiockot; but it hikes OUR.
