They are expelled into the air when he sneezes, coughs, talks or laughs. Then they get into the noses and m o u t h of other people and cause disease. Q. Why do some people say you should stay out of crowded places during an epidemic? A. When there are a number of people in relatively close quarters like classrooms and buses the air can become heavily loaded with virus particles during an epidemic. It s almost impossible to stay out of t lie path of coughs and sneezes. Q. Will a flu shot build up your resistance to colds? A. No. It is effective only against influenza viruses, and sometimes against only one particular viral strain. Q. Can 1 gel flu from the vaccine? A. Influenza vaccine is effective only against viruses which do not cause "in lesnnai mi." Q. IIow long does immunity last after a flu shot? A. The best immunity lasts for about six months and can be restored by a "booster shot." Because we can't predict what changes will occur in the v irus strains or when, a vaccine that lias beeen good for several years may suddenly need to be up-dated.
