BAILEY MEMORIA PURPOSE To encourage and assist worthy young men and women high school graduates in need of financial assistance to obtain a college education which will help prepare them for positions of community leadership and service. SCHOLARSHIPS Annually, provided there are qualified applicants, two scholarships will be awarded, each with a value up to a maximum of $1,000.00 per year for four scholastic years of college training. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the institutions selected by the recipients. Scholarships will not be awarded when, in the opinion of The Bailey Foundation, the number of applications and or calibre of applicants submitted do not present a broad enough field from which to select an applicant qualified for college work. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible an applicant: a. Must be an employee of Clinton Mills or M. S. Bailey & Son, Bankers, with at least two years of continuous service at the time application is made and must have graduated from high school within two years immediately prior to his application, or b. Must be the son or daughter of an active, or retired employee (other than an elected official) of Clinton Mills or M. S. Bailey & Son Bankers, who has completed two years continuous service at the time application is made. Sons and daughters of employees must permanently reside with the employee parent. No applicant who is already attending college will be considered eligible. Employee applicants must also file by April 15 of the year they plan to enter college. SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENTS Applicant must graduate from a high school accredited by the State of South Carolina Department of Education, with a scholastic standing in the upper one-third of his class; and, in addition. applicant must have pursued a college preparatory curriculum. All applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Entrance Examination Board prior to making application, whether required by the college of his choice or not. Applicants must have an average score of 300 or above on SAT; that is, a total of 600 on combined score for Verbal and Math Tests. RENEWAL AND CONTINUATION Scholarships are renewable and continuable subject to the following: Scholarship awardees must maintain a grade point ratio satisfactory to his college for graduation within the regular specified time for the degree he is pursuing, and to the Scholarship Committee of The Bailey Foundation. If a student has not satisfactorily completed his courses in the regular school term he must make the courses up in summer school or extra sessions at his own expense before he is eligible for re newai ol scholarship. A scholarship award will be withdrawn if the original eligibility status changes during the period of the award except that the award may be continued for the balance of the school year during which such change in status occurs. The scholarship award will be withdrawn if the personal conduct of the student becomes unsatisfactory to The Bailey Foundation. 3 ider Opportunities COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL LOANS Offers of interest-free four year College Educational Loans will be made to eligible employees, and to their eligible sons and daughters. Applicants must graduate from a high school accredited by the State of South Carolina Department of Education, with a scholastic standing in the upper fifty percent of his class, and must be accented by the accredited South Carolina College or University of their choice. Application qualification requirements for the Loans and conditions for continuation are the same as those required for applicants for the M. S. Bailey Memorial Scholarships except that it is not necessary to compete for the College Scholarships in order to qualify for the Loan Program. Educational loans may be made in amounts of up to $1,000 per year, but must not exceed a total of $3,400 over a four year period to any one student. Loans are renewable each year until under-graduate trrining is completed. Request for renewal of loans must be made by July 15 of each year. Loans will also be offered to eligible applicants desiring to pursue Two Year Degree Programs leading to Associate Degrees in accredited Junior Colleges, accredited Business Colleges and State Technical Education Centers. 91U DENT EUAN FUND Student loans are also made available to assist worthy applicants from Clinton Mills and M. S. Bailey & Son, Bankers families who wish to further their education in private Business Colleges. Adult Education Courses and State Technical Education Centers in certificate and diploma programs; provided other comparable loan assistance and or scholarship funds are not available from other sources. Educational requirements are that the eligible loan applicant meet the criteria for the program of his selection at the approved school of his choice. Recipients of these loans must be an employee or child and or dependent of an employee of Clinton Mills or M. S. Bailev & Son Bankers witVi at least two years consecutive service preceding the date of application. Such applicants for loans shall be screened by a committee set up for that purpose. A systematic repayment schedule for satisfaction of any loans authorized by this Committee and made by the Foundation will be detemined prior to making of the loan. The loan shall be paid directly to the institution selected by the student. As evidence of the indebtedness, the applicant shall give a note to the Foundation, endorsed by the applicant's parents or by his legal guardian or persons with whom he resides. SELECTION OF APPLICANTS The selection of applicants to whom scholarships and loans are to be awarded will be made by the Bailey Foundation and will be based on scholastic achievement, leadership, character, extra-curricular activities, financial need, and other factors considered significant by the Foundation.
