NO. 11 6,000 Christmas Bags Will Be Given Employees More than 6,000 large bags of fruit, nuts and candy will be distributed to all employees and members of their families at Clinton and Lydia Cotton Mills again this year, follov'ng a custom of many v e a i s standing, P. Silas Bailey, president, has announced. The baskets will be distributed to everyone living in the two villages December 21 and 22, Mr. Bailey said. Em pioyees who do not live in the village are asked to get the bags for themselves and members of their families at Bailey Memorial Methodist Church (for Clinton employees) and at Providence School (for Lvdia employees). More than 2,900 bags will be prepared for Lvdia employees and more than 3,100 bags at Clinton in this year's distribution from the mills. A full bag goes to each employee and to each child or other members of the family. More than 400 crates of oranges will go into the bags this year, 6,000 bags of candy anri woll nvur a Inn nf ?... Mrs. Joe Land and W. O. All departments and all shifts had attained almost tOO.000 safe man-hours at that time, or almost one-third of the total need for the goal of 1,000.000 man-hours. Clinton Cotton Mills was standing at EMi.690 man-hours without an accident at press time. The period indicated by these figures covers two months and a half. The mills will be closed soon for the Christmas holidays. Safety Director Calvin Cooper urged all employees to keep safety constantly on their minds so that an accident would not mar the holiday season for any employee and his or her family. Clinton-Lydia Mill management has promised a barbecue for all employees of either or both mills when they attain the million manhour mark without a losttime accident. CHRISTMAS PARADE The following organizations from the Clinton Mills community took part in the annual Christmas parade: Boy Scouts. Permit No. 59 DECEMBER 15. 1953 Mills To Close December 23-28 For Christmas Clinton-Lvdia Cotton Mills will close for the Christmas holidays at 8 o'clock in the morning, Wednesday, December 23 and re-open at 8 o'clock Monday morning. December 28. This announcement was made by President Bailey and was made just as far ahead as possible so that employees could make their plans for the holidays. Clinton Adult School Closes The Clinton Mills Adult School held closing exercises including a Christmas party December 8 in the Community Building. The program conducted by the students began with singing, "Jov to the World," led by Miss Nellie Osborne and accompanied by Mrs. Eva Land. Guests were welcomed by Miss Polly Brazil. Perfect attendance certificates were awarded by the teachers. Refreshments were served in the dining room. Christmas Cantata Will Be Broadcast A Christmas Cantata. "The City of the Star," will be presented by the choir of Calvary Baptist Church on December 20. The 32-member choir is under the direction of Mrs. Joe Land. The organist is Mrs. Bobby Bovce and the pianist. Mrs. Alvin Trammel.
