Instead of scouring the Wal-Mart oiclac fnr roH marking pens and folders, the university bound shopper . concentrates on ■! a more daunt ing search — the search for dorm room es sentials. Commanding thp front napps of Sunday ads and exploding onto the shelves of area retail ers, dorm-centered supplies be come featured products during the back-to-school season. Stores such as Target have'developed complete houseware lines with college kids in mind. Designer Todd Oldham’s line at Target features an array of functional, yet whimsical items from rugs to CD racks. Such chic and sen sibly priced options allow stu dents to add flair to an otherwise bland list of necessities. That ragged throw that was found at home in the back of the linen closet might have seemed like a free, available option while packing, but once it takes center stage in a dorm room, its lack of that “je ne sais quoi” becomes harshly evident. Thankfully, those pressed for time and money can choose one of the many “bed-in a-bag” collections on the mar ket.
