If a job no longer needs to be done, it’s OK to count it as completed. Something more important deserves attention. TAURUS Strangely enough, you could get to be the spokesperson for your group. The others can’t go straight to the bottom line and explain it as well as you can. GEMINI There might not be enough money, or maybe there’s some other reason to wait. No need to be discouraged, though. True love will find a way. CANCER Once you get your place all fixed up, it’ll be the perfect setting for romance. Thursday and Friday are better for that. Concentrate on your decor now. LEO Your communication skills are good now, but don’t spend all day talking. There’s plenty of other work to be done, and some of it is important. VIRGO Don’t spend all your winnings in one place. Save some for later. Get something nice for a loved one, too, and something else nice for yourself. LIBRA You’re over here, and someone you care about is over there. New technology and old friends help you keep the connection. So call already! SCORPIO Hotter heads want to take action, but let them convince you first. You want to make sure you get the very best return on your investment. SAGITTARIUS You’re eager to take off but unsure of the direction you should take. Put a lid on that energy, but be ready in case you have to move quickly. CAPRICORN Try not to lose your temper when those around you are losing theirs. That’ll give you a slight advantage, and that ought to be enough. AQUARIUS A little good natured kidding could do you a world of good. Don’t take yourself too seriously. You heal when you laugh at old fears. PISCES Help out a friend if you can, but don’t let that take up all of your time. You also need to keep taking good care of yourself. WEEKLY ADVICE COLUMN: WHAT’S UP? Changing roles in relationships Welcome to What’s Up, the weekly advice column. Submit your anonymous questions to ad vicecolumnusc@hotmail.com. Q: My parents are very strict with me even though I live on campus; they always want to know where I am, what I’m doing, with whom. They call me several times a day to check in. Sometimes I don’t even answer the phone. What can I do? A: Some parents are victims of “empty-nest” syndrome. Whether you are the first or last child to leave home, parents often get very sad and anxious when you move to college; the family structure and routine changes greatly. You should wean them off of their de pendency of doing too much for you. Try calling them once a day for a while, then every other day, then once a week. If they call you too much, let them know that you need to prepare for your classes. You can help to decrease their de sire to control your life if you suc cessfully handle your responsibil ities on your own. Q: I feel like I have become my boyfriend’s “mother.” He doesn’t seem to be able to pay his bills on time, do his laundry, or clean up after himself. I really love him and we talk about getting married after we graduate, but I wonder if I will be happy do ing all of these things for him. A: You may enjoy doing a spe cial favor for him once in awhile, but when this becomes the pat tern, you feel taken for granted. If you are irritated, the relationship may be out of balance. Try to renegotiate roles and duties, so that you are both pulling equal weight. He may be willing to carry his fair share, but wants to do it on his terms. Whatever you decide is up to you, but realize that you are co-creat ing gender roles in your rela tionship. Q: Ever since I started graduate school, my husband says that I am a “different” person. He supports me in graduate school, but says that I act more independent, don’t have time for him, and talk about things that he knows nothing about. I am concerned about my marriage, but don’t want to quit graduate school. He says that if I cannot “change back” to the per son I was before I started gradu ate school, he may leave. A: You areuT^^^^^^^ and discovery while you are in graduate school. This growth may be threatening to your husband; that is a normal reaction. Very of ten the “working spouse” feels re sentful by the amount of money and time required by college life. Try to make him feel that he is a priority by scheduling special time together at least once a week and talk about common interests and feelings. You should also talk about your interests, but do it in a way that is understandable to your spouse, that includes him rather than making him feel like an outsider. The average married couple spends only 10 minutes a day talking together (no wonder the U.S. has a 51 percent divorce rate). Time together might over come misunderstandings.
