BRIEFLY Quest leaves men’s soccer program As Sunday’s showdown with the Clemson Tigers draws clos er by the day, the USC men’s soc cer team will have to find a way to win without one of its top per formers. Ricky Quest, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., has left the team to return home for per sonal reasons, according to the USC Sports Information Office. Quest, a two-time NSCAA/Adidas Junior College Player of the Year, had not ap peared in a game since the 3-1 vic tory against Washington on Sept. 15. He started all six games he played for the Gamecocks and pro vided a scoring punch, with three goals and an assist this season. “I don’t know why he left the team, except that it was for per sonal reasons,” goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer said. “It’s unfortunate because he was play ing really well and was scoring goals for us. But the team has to move on.” Originally from Jamaica, Quest was both a two-time NJ CAA and NSCAA First Team All American. He helped lead Herkimer (N.Y.) Community College to 2000 National Championship honors. As of Tuesday night, men’s soccer head coach Mark Berson and his assistants were un available for comment on this matter. Going 0-for-4 occasionally is OK, but Ordonez makes a habit out of it. He hit .254 this season — and that was his best in three seasons. They’d proba bly be glad to see him go.
