She hopes to juggle the track team and her social life while concen trating on school. WHY USC? Chelsea decided to attend USC after visiting the cam pus and meeting the members of the track team. “The girls at the other schools I visited weren’t as friendly,” she said. “Our track team feels like a family.” Chelsea also liked the South* she felt it would be easier to meet people here. “People will say ‘hey’ to you and give you directions,” she said. She’s worried she’ll party too much and not study enough. “I’m afraid of peer pressure,” she said, and quickly added, “That’s a dorky thing to say.” Unlike her counterparts, she’s not worried about feeling lost on campus. “I’m from Columbia, so I already know my way around campus.” WHY USC? “It wasn’t my first choice, but I didn’t apply any where else,” she said. PREDICTIONS: Jessica predicts that the bonds she has with her friends will get stronger and that she will stick out the full four years at USC. DREAM JOB: Jessica would like to manage a company. Thurmond, coming from a small town, also chose USC because of its location. “It is a real big change; the inter state does not even run through my town. It’s going to be fun be ing in a big city where there are always things to do,” Thurmond said. PREDICTIONS: “I will be more mature, more responsible and able to deal with things on my own,” Thurmond said. DREAM JOB: In the future, Thurmond hopes to be a doctor. A heavier workload, a new campus and the challenges of being on their own for the first time are concerns that sound fa miliar to any college freshman. Like the thousands that have come before them, they will have to find their own way.
