H I ©amecock *4# ~ King Black Acid disappoints fans by Jon Drankwalter The Gamecock King Blade Acid Loves A Long Song out of King Black Acid’s new release is filled with alternative bal lads that show promise at many pdints, but becomes a disap pointment as it delivers nothing special that audiences have not heard before. “Butterfly Bomber,” the first track off the album, displays a good depth of instrumental bridges and hooks, but as the song lingers into the eighth and ninth minute it loses its momentum. The only other track that is noteworthy on the album is an instrumental called, “Bom to Sleep.” It is the only song where the band strays from the structure of mellow verse to the hard chorus with screeching vocals. It instead focuses on different guitar effects that make the song very interesting to listen to. The rest of the eight-song album becomes tiresome quick ly, as many of the songs closely resemble each other. King Black Acid dedicated this work towards songs about love, which made many of the lyrics within the songs predictable. I would not recommend running out to the record shop and buying this album off the shelf. I would not even really rec ommend that you take your rime to listen to this record at all. Then add the likes of a horn section, an accordion, a tambourine, and organs. The result of this is the Royal Fm gerbowl’s new album, Greyhound Afternoons. This album displays a lot of variety within the disc itself, while never losing its playful side. “Bad Apples” is a song that describes different shenanigans that-a young man gets in volved in throughout the day. The lyrics are very clever and the song is fun to listen to. The album goes from the singer growling about how he is just an echo in the mind of a certain girl on one track, then onto the next song where he recalls events that he witnesses happening while he is on a Greyhound bus. The album starts out upbeat, then it gets down into the funda mental blues and it is pretty interesting to listen to all around. The album has its weaknesses within songs like “Blurry” which just does not have the qualities that keeps your finger away from the skip button. If you are into blues music that con tain amusing lyrics along with interesting accompaniments, then you will enjoy Royal Fingerbowl’s new album. His June 20 release, House of God, is no different. Although he’s overlooked by critics, King Diamond’s on stage appearance and musical ability have etched his name in heavy mure. But if you’re unfamiliar with him, just imagine Rob Zombie with Rob Halford’s (of Judas Priest) vocal range. On House of God, King Diamond pulls together devastat ing beats, eerie keyboards and heavy guitars to stay current with heavy music trends. But he combines tliis music with high pitched vocals characteristics of the 80s, adding a dimension to songs often dismissed by mainstream listeners. Standout tracks include “The Trees Have Eyes,” “Just A Shadow” and “The Pact” to name a few. Actually, the entire al bum is astonishing. And like many of his older albums, tliis is a concept album, telling a complete story with each song build ing on the one before. So although the music is updated, the sound remains the same. So if you like metal the way it was meant to be, you’ll love this album. It’s easy to see why great 80’s metal bands, like Metallica, cover his music and are influenced by him. King Di amond is simply amazing. ---.-» The Spotlight desk can be reached at ganiecockspotlight@hotniail.com Y read 'Hs-' L “(Samecock )■; _Uiil-lgf Women Helping Women it's about...Life!
