Arellanes had attempted just one pass all season prior to the NFL Europe title game. Arellanes was forced into the starting lineup when the league's top-rated quarterback, Mike Quinn, was deemed unfit to play just before kickoff because of a strained ankle. The former Fresno State player teamed up with Dialleo Burks for scares from 15 and 27 yards out and tossed another score to Robinson for a 74-yard touchdown. A native of Hudiksvall, Sweden, Ohlsson made only five Bs in his college career. Ohlsson was also a Phi Beta Kappa Honors fraternity member, American Society of Mechanical Engineers member and Phi Theta Kappa member at South Carolina. "I studied a lot and prioritized school," he said. 1 didn't have much of a social life during the week. I finished early so I could have a social life on the weekends. If s easier for an athlete [to do well], because I know I have practice. I have to do this and then that. me structure neips. Ohlsson transferred to USC from Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Ifexas, where he won the hammer event at the NJCAA Championships in 1994 and 1995. His team won both the indoor and outdoor titles both years. He was on the President's List twice and the Dean's List once while there. Sophomore Jerome Jourdon of the USC men's tennis team was named to the Academic All-America Second Tfeam. The Courbevoie, France, native has a 3.88 GPA in Business Administration. Jourdon was ranked No. 29 in singles and No. 10 in doubles according to the Rolex Collegiate Rankings. The men's tennis team (21-8) advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Mississippi State. Page 9 QB Penn transferring staff artfer ANTHONY ISAAC Vic Penn, a rising redshirt sophomore at USC, plans to transfer to another school this fall, Gamecock head coach Brad Scott announced Tuesday. Scott said he met with Penn earlier this month and the school has granted him his release to transfer. "Vic and his family indicated that be wanted to pursue other college football opportunities this fall," Scott said. "Our program appreciates his contributions, in particular the three gutsy efforts he turned in at the end of last season when Anthony Wright went down with his knee injury. We wish Vic all the best." Penn served in a backup role his first two seasons at South Carolina. Following his redshirt season in 1996, the native of Miami, r la., was the team s No. L quarterback last year.
