Frankfurt, Germany?Reserve quarterback
Jim Arellanes stepped in and
threw three touchdown passes, including
one to former South Carolina receiver
Marcus Robinson on Sunday to lead the
Duesseldorf Rhein Fire to a 34-10 victory
over the Frankfurt Galaxy in the Worid
Bowl.
Arellanes had attempted just one pass
all season prior to the NFL Europe title
game.
Arellanes was forced into the starting
lineup when the league's top-rated
quarterback, Mike Quinn, was deemed
unfit to play just before kickoff because
of a strained ankle.
The former Fresno State player
teamed up with Dialleo Burks for
scares from 15 and 27 yards out and tossed
another score to Robinson for a 74-yard
touchdown.
Robinson had two receptions for 114
yards in the game.

Ohlsson transferred to USC from

staff artfer ANTHONY ISAAC
Vic Penn, a rising redshirt
sophomore at USC, plans to transfer
to another school this fall, Gamecock
head coach Brad Scott announced
Tuesday. Scott said he met
with Penn earlier this month and
the school has granted him his release
to transfer.
"Vic and his family indicated
that be wanted to pursue other college
football opportunities this fall,"
Scott said. "Our program appreciates
his contributions, in particular
the three gutsy efforts he turned
in at the end of last season when
Anthony Wright went down with
his knee injury. We wish Vic all the
best."
Penn served in a backup role
his first two seasons at South Carolina.
Following his redshirt season
in 1996, the native of Miami,
r la., was the team s No. L quarterback
last year.
When Wright suffered a season-ending
knee injury in the first
half of the Tennessee game, Penn
stepped in and was the starter the
remainder of the season. In 1997,
Penn completed 43 of 93 passes for
55 yards, three touchdowns and
four interceptions.
